Food is always delicious when we go but the staff experience can be hit or miss. Had a different server than the one who was serving us, come and interrupt a conversation I was having with my husband to talk about a personal issue. I attempted to speak to the owner and this same server literally interrupts me again to defend that she had never done so in the first place?? In both conversations, I didn’t have the opportunity to finish what I was saying. I also have never had such confrontational and uncomfortable altercations with staff while out to eat. It was just a bizarre experience and hopefully a one-time occurrence.

Each time I’ve come here it’s gotten progressively worse. Main gentleman working has consistently forgotten my food/drinks and we waited almost 15 minutes for any drinks. I’ve never not tipped someone before tonight but wow, I was appalled at the service.

Terrible service. We stopped in for dinner last night. The hostess seated us right away, gave us menus, and said the server would be right with us. Someone else brought chips and salsa and set them down without saying a word. Then we sat there eating chips and salsa. No one came back to give us water or take our food and drink orders. The hostess, the bartender, and a couple of servers were standing at opposite end of the bar talking and ignoring our efforts to get their attention. After about 15 minutes, we finally got up and walked out. No one said anything to us as we walked by them to leave. We used to like this place but won’t be back.

Thrilled to find authentic Mexican food in Iowa on our summer RV road trip. Definitely the exception rather than the rule – most “mexican” food in the midwest is anything but. The staff was friendly and attentive and provided us great service. We enjoyed the enchiladas divorciadas, coctel del camaron, steak ranchero, and queso fundido with some lime margaritas and a Dos Equis Amber. It definitely was not to the spice level we are accustomed, but was plenty flavorful and enjoyable.

In our area (Johnson County, IA) Mexican Restaurants come & go often. There is a reason this one has come and stayed. Great food and adult beverages…they have youth beverages too. Customer service has always been good. If you’re hungry…I highly recommend the Molcajete. Great owning a business a couple blocks away from it.

VERY indifferent service. Not terrible but not friendly or accommodating at all. Food was pretty good but nothing outstanding for lunch. Salsa and chips were outstanding. Really dislike the waiter standing over me as I am forced to accept the default 20% tip on the digital bill pad because the only lower choice is “no tip.” Overall a cold and unfriendly atmosphere, probably worth the price of the food but not a 20% service tip.

Absolutely one of the best most authentic food I have had! You can tell all of the food was cooked and prepared fresh and everything was out super fast! Has an awesome experience with great staff. Will defiantly be back!
