I’m more of a taco truck, six pack of beer, picnic table in a park kind of person. An “inspired” Iowa-Mex-Irish via Texas menu is perfect for this mall parking lot location. For me it’s as if Taco Bell hooked up with Taco John’s then moved to 1984 and started serving food. A place where you take a kid whose afraid to try Mexican food or the grandparents who’s taste buds have see better days. I came for the happy hour which in the racket of the Margarita world isn’t to bad. Half price Margaritas with complimentary chips and salsa. The good service, friendly staff and nice people watching make this a decent stop for a Margarita happy hour from time to time. Enjoy!

Margarita tasted like it was not a mix, despite being one. That was refreshing. Food was excellent. Chips were just right with salt on them. Queso had large amount of onions in it but didn’t affect flavor. Just surprised. Some type of cheese on guacamole. Just different. Main meal of enchilada san Carlos very good and street tacos Barrio, the sauce was excellent. Overall it was pleasant for us, Texans to find a place in IA to have a taste of home that we can take friends/family to in the future.

This is a problem with corporate more than this specific store. However, my server had no helpful suggestions nor did she get a manager to help figure anything out. Very disappointing. I have specific nutrition requirements so of course I planned my meal from the nutrition information online before going into the restaurant. I was told they changed the menu but not the online information so what I planned to order was not available. There was nothing I could order that met my nutritional requirements so I had to sit with no food while my family ate. I was not pleased. The waitress said the menu was changed due to Covid. It’s 2023, restaurants re-opened 3.5 years ago in Iowa. I think it’s absurd that they haven’t, in all that time, gotten around to changing the online nutritional information to reflect what is actually being served, or gone back to the full menu. Ruined my evening as I was hungry but had to sit 90 minutes while my family ate, then go home to eat. That shouldn’t happen. Unfortunately everything on the current menu is loaded with insane amounts of calories & fats which make it unsuitable for me (and many others). Its also missing a ton of information. If the online menu had been current, I would not have gone to that restaurant so I feel like it was trickery that brought me in the door. I’m so, so displeased and disappointed in Carlos O Kelly’s.

Visited on 6/19/23 between 8:50pm-9:15pm (closed at 10pm). Had their enchilada combo meal. Place can hold approx. 150. Only 7 patrons & 3 front end staff during my visit. I know the chain has been closing nearby locations left & right (Mason City 6-7 years ago, Rochester 2-3 years ago). Only downside with this visit was the prices.

Slimmed down menu but still a great selection! I had the Sancho! Wait time for a table was half what they said. And even with a full house we didn’t have to wait long for service OR our food! Always happy with the food when we go.

The service was awesome. Peyton was our server and did an excellent job. The food was great, came out hot and we didn’t wait long for it at all. I love their chips and salsa as well. The sitting is up to the Covid standards and the staff is masked up..
