Mr. Cook
I’ve been searching for authentic tasting Jamaican food ever since Mama J’s closed down. This is the place to go if your looking for authenticity. Those other restaurants that I’ve tried in Columbia have nothing on Calabash Caribbean Grill. I grew up eating authentic Jamaican food from friends houses and this is the real deal! I spent about $60 on Friday and it was well worth it.

So we were in the mood for Jamaican. A quick Google search led us to this spot. As soon as we stepped in the aroma of Oxtails hit my nose. The cashier was friendly and greeted us.

Calabash is amazing for vegetarians! Some things can be prepared vegan. The veggie roti is stuffed with curried vegetables and is so flavorful. The jerked veggies come with rice & beans and plantains and is pretty spicy, but you can ask them for less spice – super tasty and a big portion. We highly recommend the soft, fluffy, and warm coco bread. Also, the side of plantains is a must: huge and perfectly fried. The ginger pineapple juice was a little bit ginger-heavy for us but still super good. The best part was the really friendly worker who stopped to chat and check on us a few times. Eat here!!

Take it from me..I’ve lived in Columbia for 6yrs now (from the Caribbean) and have tried almost all the Caribbean restaurants around…definitely the most authentic I’ve tasted. Seasoned to perfection and not salty like some other places I’ve tried (hint hint…the one on broad river rd). Their island drinks are flavorful as well especially that pineapple ginger…definitely recommend!

Excellent food and the staff is awesome. I had the BBQ Jerk chicken and it comes with peas and rice and cabbage. It was INCREDIBLE. The food was delightful and they served me like they cared about me. Feed me and shock me….Wow. I felt like they genuinely wanted me to be happy. I love this place. Incredible…!!!!

I feel like they can be a little less stingy with the oxtails I’ve been twice and both times I got one big one and like 3 little ones I understand oxtails are expensive bc I buy them myself but if I spend $20+ on a plate I would expect more then one big one…but all in all the food was extremely good omg and the cabbage was so good my toddler took his shirt off and was eating it with his hands lol the rice and beans weren’t hard which made me love this places even more the people are nice as well 10/10 would recommend
