Café la Rue translates to “the street,” and in La Jolla all streets lead to La Valencia Hotel & Spa and her chic, casual bistro designed as a European brasserie perfect for people watching. The eatery’s natural light and airy art deco-inspired ambiance is accented with original mural paintings that mirror the café’s own sidewalk seating along Prospect Street. As La Jolla’s best interactive venue, a chef driven rotating seasonal menu ranges from shared plates to elegant entrees built with sustainable ingredients from local providers. Evening specials are served al fresco under the twinkling lights of the village-front courtyard, where delectable flavors mingle with irresistible live music and balmy ocean breezes.

I’m not sure if it is a part of the hotel. it’s on the higher side for price. Food was really good though. There was only one server when we came in. She was nice.

The service here was great and so was the food. There is both outside and inside dining and the atmosphere is most definitely on par with French decorating. Definitely get the crab sandwich.

Had a wonderful lasagna, and for a reasonably good price considering it was La Jolla. Mia was our server and she was terrific. For desert a “Whaler” is the perfect way to finish a great meal.

Brussel sprouts and $10 champagne on Wednesday night. If you’re not vegetarian, grab half dozen oysters for $9. They have deals every night.

Really nice place. Really quaint. You really have to look out for this place or you’ll walk right by it! Great food and super friendly employees. Right next to La Valencia.

Excellent restaurant. We sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. We had the French dip and the crab cake BLT and they were both just delicious. I also had the Pink Lady drink and it was sooo good. Ya get a nice fresh basil leaf as a garnish.

Decent food at a reasonable price within this more casual of the restaurants within La Valencia Hotel. Some more attention to detail (ie steaks ordered medium well and medium rare were cooked exactly the same, a menu item came out nothing like the description due to chef “trying a new way”) would improve the overall experience. Cocktails were innovative and well-made. Would go again for drinks but find another option for dining.

I can not believe how good the food is at just a “hotel” restaurant. I had crabcake and bacon…. on a roll… with a special aoli… simple but amazingly good. Crab nice and piping hot, Smokey bacon cooked perfect, great service… music was great also. Wife says her drunks were good especially the house special a watermelon type drink. Go here even of you are not staying at La V.

I usually only post reviews if the establishment is really good or really bad. In this case it wasn’t that the Café La Rue in the La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla was terrible, its just I expected so much more for such a nice place and terribly expensive tab. The waitress was nice, but never apologized and only thanked us for our patience….over and over again. All eight of us ordered at the same time. After a while…2 meals came out…15 minutes later another 4 showed up…finally another 15 mins later the last 2 plates showed up! They don’t even do this at Denny’s (nothing wrong with Denny’s, I prefer them over Snooze anyways!) So very disappointed in this place and will take my hard-earned money elsewhere.
