I had no idea a burger could be this bad. I understand that it was created during the depression, but why would you want to eat this mushy nasty burger when the plain bun is 100 times more appealing.

I really thought from the outside of the restaurant that it was a little nicer inside. Not what I was expecting inside. The prices are outstanding. The food was different than I have ever had before. The burgers are almost like a paste and they are deep fried. So when you bite into the burger you get a crunchy texture, but the middle is lie a soft paste-like texture. It tasted okay, it was just the texture that threw me off. Great people running it and I would still recommend trying it.

Well guys, I guess you have to be from around here to appreciate their burgers….. The lady did asked us before we order were me and my husband ever dined there and of course we didn’t but wanted to try the diner cheeseburger and French fries. As she “WARN” us it’s made from bread and hamburger meat (which they already had cooked and line them up by the grill to easily make so to me it wasn’t fresh at all). However, we took it to go and hope it was at least tasteful which it wasn’t folks!!! It had more bread then meat and wasn’t good at all. I took the bread off the top to taste the meat and again it wasn’t worth the price we paid which came out to be $13-14 dollars for two people. We ordered 2 burgers, 1 fries and 1 drink which the fries and drink taste better then the burger so SAD and disappointing!!!

Amazing burgers! Been eating them most of my life when I lived in Decatur. BUT the hours shouldn’t be posted or posted correctly because this is the second time I’ve come by within the past month or so and it was closed. And I drive from Madison thinking you all will be open until 6pm and you’re not.

Small diner atmosphere period burgers were precooked and set aside. Food without less than 5 minutes. However, it was very greasy and had no other flavor.

Its an experience. Read the reviews, knew the patties were different, but everyone said they were amazing so we decided to try it.

Like most patrons, Penns has been a staple in my family for generations. I left Alabama 15 years ago and have made trips from Florida, Pennsylvania, and all over regularly to see family, but Penns is always my first and last stop. Ever since the re-location and new owner (I’ve been about 12 times the last few years) the burgers just taste different? The patties are never crisp on the outside, the buns seem thicker and denser, the overall product is half as greasy (which would normally be a positive) but the iconic Penns flavor is just lacking. They taste like someones best attempt at making a Penns burger at home. You can just sense the lack of care and soul. For nearly 4 dollars per bread burger (albeti reasonable in todays market) I’d expect them to produce the product we all grew to love.

First time being here and the food was delicious. Burgers are mixture of beef and bread, then they deep fried them into pure magic. We got the cheeseburgers original style, with onions and mustard. Onions were cooked nicely, not large chunks.

The new location is great! There’s a bit of a wait time right now bc everybody has missed them and there’s a line out the door almost all day, but it’s definitely worth it, the same classic taste and classic style with a bit of an update 🙂

Was visiting Decatur, just a day trip, seeing the sights. So, saw this local spot and decided to try it– because that’s what you do when exploring. And how could you go wrong with a burger? So we each order a burger, we had fries, and onion rings as well. That “burger” – — it wasn’t beef. What kind of “meat” WAS that?!!?? Took one bite and puked! On the plus side the fries and onion rings were awesome .
