burger-chan is an Asian-owned, mom & pop counter-service gourmet burger concept that serves umami-filled burgers with a side of community. Chef and co-owner Willet Feng has the culinary chops to create a chef-driven menu, and co-owner Diane Wu Feng has the pedagogical background to foster inclusiveness for workers and customers.
burger-chan opened as Kuma Burgers back in 2016 in an underground food court in Greenway Plaza. At the end of August 2020, burger-chan closed the Greenway Plaza location due to COVID.
burger-chan 2.0 in the Galleria-area was supposed to be a second location, but is now the flagship brick-and-mortar. burger-chan has been open to the public since January 3, 2022.

Came here with a friend for the first time on Sunday, 04/30. You have to customize how you want your burger (or whatever you’re getting) by filling out a form on their small clipboards. They make everything fresh. You can even see them making the food in the back. They have plenty of seating inside and they even have outside seating. I got a double 2 ounce burger on a brioche bun with regular burger toppings and pepper jack cheese. I also added bacon and charred jalapenos. My burger alone was $12.75 and my side of curly fries was $3.50. The food was A1! My burger was delicious, hot, fresh, and well seasoned. My curly fries were hot and fresh as well. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal! The only thing I’d say is their brioche bun could be a bit softer; it didn’t really give me that super soft, sweet, doughy, melt in your mouth brioche feel, it just tasted like a regular hamburger bun. Everything else was a 10/10. I’ll definitely be back.

Tied for my favorite burger ever! All kinds of fresh toppings and hand pressed hamburger cooked perfectly. They will even cook to your taste. Fries were excellent as well. Plus, the price is right for a burger of this quality and taste. Stop in and get your burger on. You won’t regret it.

love love LOVE this place! the wife of the owner is amazing at explaining the multitude of items you can order while cashiering. the interior is pleasing and fun. the burgers are delicious (the sambal mayo is a must try), and all of their drinks are solid. I love the limited time options like corn milkshake with whipped coconut cream, inspired by chè bắp, a common Vietnamese dessert. the sugarcane biodegradable straws are a cool touch, they will crumble if you chew them, so watch out! friendly, capable staff and service. I love the focus on Asian influences to the eating experience here (i.e. Japanese coffee, Indonesian inspired sambal mayo, etc.), plus they seem to avidly support and work with local businesses owned by AAPIs. Will definitely take people to this place if they visit Houston. It’s an experience you can’t find anywhere else!

This place is so cool and delicious. You fill out your order on a cute little clip board, you get so many options. Our burgers were delicious! My hubby called it, he said when we drove by, “with a name like that, I bet the food is great.” He was right! Eat here!
