About Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria
Considered the oldest family name in Chicago pizza, Lou Malnati’s is as rich in history as its pizza is in flavor.
Lou Malnati got his start in the 1940’s working in Chicago’s first deep dish pizzeria. He took his pizza expertise to Lincolnwood, a northern suburb of Chicago, where he and his wife Jean opened the first Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria on March 17, 1971. Lou was known for his fun-loving character as well as making Chicago’s best pizza. Loyal patrons lined the streets on opening day for a taste of his delicious deep dish creations. Lou always thought it was funny that an Italian should open a pizzeria in a Jewish neighborhood on an Irish holiday.

Our first Chicago style pizza experience and I don’t have enough accolades to describe the piece of heaven. We ordered the Chicago pizza, a family Malnati salad, garlic bread, minestrone soup, chicken Caesar salad, and a few drinks. Will definitely visit on our next trip to Illinois.

My boyfriend and I wanted to try some Chicago deep pizza, I thought it was really good I couldn’t even finish the one slice I had but I also eat some appetizers. This place has been around since 1940 I believe. The staff was wonderful our waiter was great he cut our pizza served it to us and then put the rest into our take box.

The deep dish pizza was HUGE. The large must have been over 10lbs. If you can easily eat half a pizza hut pizza, an appetizer and a small personal pan deep dish will be plenty of pizza for you at Malnatis. This place was really good, the brochette was absolutely to die for, and the sausage they put on the pizza tasted like it was locally made. Boji was our server and he was great. Thanks guys!

Very friendly service staff. Long-standing business in an historic building. Good food! There are only one stall bathrooms (one female and one male). Main room is a little noisy fyi. Overall, it’s a good place!

I had to visit Chicago for a graduation. I am from Texas and the first thing I got recommend to try was the famous Chicago deep dish pizza. From various locals, we were pointed to Lou Malnati’s. The wait was a bit long but it was worth every bite. Our waitress, which who’s name I do not remember, was so amazing! Her service was unbelievable. Her quickness and her hospitality was above and beyond. As well, there was this one gentleman, Julio, who was also very nice and helpful to our waitress. The food was so fresh and filled with flavor! We order two deep dishes, the Classic and the Lou. I would recommend 10/10!!!

Quality has severely decreased if this is what is considered deep dish. I placed my order on their app to schedule for 9:30 pick up, an hour ahead of time and it was wrong. I go here for primarily deep dish but I would go to Pequods instead since the quality is now terrible here. Literally half the size of a normal deep dish pizza. Also for the price, not worth it. Once a frequent customer, now probably won’t be back.

I’m from New Jersey, and pizza is kind of our thing. Yes, the best in the country is still in NYC (something about the water, I believe), but we feel strongly about our pies. Chicago-style deep dish is not on our menus, though. So a recent business trip to the Northwest corner of Cook County brought us here. Excellent location, accessible, friendly staff and prompt service. Be ready to wait 30 minutes for your pizza, because it is made just for you. A slice and a half was all I could manage, very filling. We have a tomato pie in South Jersey (around Trenton) that’s similar on the top, but the crust/dough is not. I would recommend this spot to any tourists and the locals already know how good it is.
