WOW!!! Drop the phone grab the keys and get going! They put the SOUL in soul food . As we entered the restaurant we didn’t really know what to expect and right away felt as if I was walking into my own home down south that I’ve lived in for 20 years. You can feel the home atmosphere from the moment you walk in. There’s a cooler filled with homemade sodas and we had to grab a root beer for the meal right away! Be careful though!!!! There’s a dessert cooler and I almost had a red velvet slice and bread pudding before even getting to my seat . Enough of the rambling let’s get to the food. One word…….. AMAZING. The shrimp and grits hit the plate and were delicious with each bite and FRESH. It was like I was down in the south just getting off the shrimp boat with our fresh catch for the day! Next it was the meatloaf and BANG. FLAVORTOWN Finally, the ribs… which fell off the bone as they hit the table. DELICIOUS. This establishment couldn’t miss. The mac and cheese, cabbage, and fried plantains were made with so much love it’s almost as if the chef married them for 12 1/2 years. This surprised me because normally if a place has good mains they sometimes fall off on the sides, but that was NOT the case here. Everything was packed with love and flavor and it showed. My father in law also had the catfish that was to die for! The owner even gave me a side of collard greens to try because it was my first time and that bowl almost sent me to my grave because of how damn good they were. This place honestly beats ANYTHING in the area. By far the best Soul Food in the area. The owner graciously spent his final hours of the night speaking to us for awhile about his start, life, and family owned business. One of the best nights out in this area. Head on over and taste the love and don’t forget about the dessert!

When I say they have some of the best food around I truly mean it . Aside from it being owned by a great friend of mine and the family are wonderful people the food is just out of this world. The prices are reasonable and the hospitality is A+. I will be coming here no matter where I live in New Jersey. Experience it for yourselves and stop by , you will thank me later . Thanks Brewton’s for being my great home away from home.

This place is absolutely a vibe. Welcoming as soon as you enter, and the food is PHENOMENAL. Make sure you get some Catfish Nuggets with lemon pepper on the side

If you want genuine down home food, infused with a smile and drippin’ with goodness, stop in to Brewton’s! It is a simple, diner-style layout with both counter and table seating. Toni waited on us and was very friendly. Yoni was at the grill, wearing a smile and wielding a spatula. This is not a place you will be pampered, but you will be treated to some good eats!

“Soul” food without the soul. I have New Orleans roots, I know how to season food. I ordered chicken wings, Mac/cheese, and cabbage. My daughter ordered chicken wings,Spanish rice, and collard greens. Everything was bland! There was no taste to ANYTHING! Nothing was seasoned! It was the blandest, most unenjoyable meal I’ve ever had from a black owned restaurant. Maybe they have a different ethnic group in the kitchen! ShopRite fried chicken is better seasoned than what I couldn’t bring myself to finish eating from Brewton’s. I had such high expectations, thinking I was about to get the “itis” after finishing my dinner. I couldn’t finish. I wouldn’t finish, I couldn’t torture myself anymore with unseasoned food. Even their brand of sodas are bland !! How Sway?! The other reviewers that gave this restaurant 5 stars never had true Soul food! First time and last time going here. If you enjoy unseasoned food, this is the place for you, you won’t be disappointed!

A hidden gem, one of the best at the Jersey shore for great old fashion southern dishes, great friendly staff , and the deserts are also scrumptious!

It wasn’t giving what it should’ve have. The only thing that was good that i can only say it was good, was exactly the Coconut pineapple cake. Ordered other desserts only for it to not be fresh, not to look appetizing or just good . banana pudding was watery, peach cobbler looked like it was on its death bed… Sweet potato pie was average But main courses i have tried was the ribs, their big, but bland. Sides such as the potato salad, was crunchy meaning the potatoes weren’t cooked down and too sweet. The rice is terrible it made me want to cry. Sweet potato yams was okay but only tasted like sugar was used only in it. Cabbage didn’t taste like great….. but i hope it was a bad i ordered but the food wasn’t the best.

I’m genuinely surprised that this restaurant has such a high rating. My boyfriend and I went here a couple of months ago for breakfast. Eggs were very very dry, bacon was burnt. I also saw the woman behind the grill touching her face and sneezing into her arms and then touching food. It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing gloves if your gloves are touching things they shouldn’t! We had already finished 90% of our food so there was not much we could do at this point. Today my bf stopped on his way home to get me a bagel and himself a wrap. (I didn’t know he went there). The bagel he brought home for me was horrendous. It was mushy and as you can see from the picture if I squeezed it, it stayed in place. It tasted like a bagel you get in a bag at shop rite. I took one bite and threw it out. Only reason I gave 2 starts instead of 1 is because he said he wrap was “ok” and just lacked flavor. I will never be back.
