Nice little gem here off the beaten path. Tucked away and bordering the lake The Blue Heron tavern is well worth the trip. From the moment you walk in, your hit with a feeling of nostalgia, ol school vibes. The menu on the other hand is fresh and inviting. The food is thoughtfully prepared and delicious. Great place for date night, family dinner or simply eating solo at the bar.

We had a great 1st time experience at the Tavern last night. We started with a round of expertly prepared and presented cocktails (mine was a whisky sour special). Round of appetizers, salads & soups enjoyed by all. The gumbo was very smooth, and full flavored without being overly seasoned, my husbands mushroom soup also looked very good. For entrees My husband had the elk med/rare it was beautifully presented, mine was the bone in pork chop with batter fried artichoke heart, the salmon also looked well prepared and everyone in our party of 4 savored every bite. Others at our table who have eaten at the tavern several times said they had never been disappointed. We will definitely be back and look forward to enjoying the beautiful view in the warmer weather

The Tavern can best be defined as mediocre, in need of better staff management, and better food quality. The cheese board advertising Marconi almonds came adorned with mediocre untoasted California almonds. The blue cheese was as unremarkable as the rest of the meal. The lobster lettuce rolls brought back memories of a brothel tour of Singapore. I have never experienced fishy lobster before, however, in addition to the notes of vinegar, I was given unsolicited flashbacks of unsavory times.

The Two Es, as my husband says: Excellent and Expensive. Perfect special occasion venue w/o being stuffy. Lovely ambiance, spectacular setting, outstanding food/selection, special cocktails, friendly & professional staff. Recommend: mushroom soup, elk for sure, lamb lollipops, pear dessert. Lobster dishes sounded amazing. Menu changes. Will be back.

I just have to say where has this place been hiding? Haha. Our friends made last minute reservations at this place. I will say we were expecting more of a Tavern type menu, but what we got was so much more ! We were so blown away with the food, the service and the charming ambience. Although it was dark, I know it is on a very pretty lake as well. The chef did an outstanding job, and the servers were great too. I don’t normally send a lot of useless texts, but I just had to text my friends that they have to go to this restaurant . Thank you for the awesome meal!!

Excellent evening! The Food, service & atmosphere are all on point. The lamb is by far the best I’ve had. Thanks for another great night. We will certainly be back as often as possible.

Ken and Dan crushed it tonight. Foie mash excellent, elk cooked perfectly, lamb out of this world, scallops seered perfectly golden brown. Couldn’t be more pleased with our evening. Friendly staff as well, please please please try this food. In the middle of nowhere sussex county there are so few options and this is for sure top 5 best spots. Order anything in the menu and wait to be impressed.
