On top of being a great local cafe, Blue Heron was perfect for catering our special day. My husband and I were blown away by the service Blue Heron Catering provided. Their communication from start to finish was phenomenal. Julie was reliable and professional. At the tasting, we had many fabulous options, and Chef Brian made sure that we had exactly what we needed to make the best choice for our wedding. All of our guests raved about the food with its high-quality ingredientsand fantastic flavor. What I also lovedaboutBlue Heron was how many of their main courses are dairy and/or gluten-free, which allowed our guests with dietary restrictions to still eat all the same food as the rest of our guests. This Northern Michigan gem is hard to beat!

Wow! is all I can say. Ordered the lunch flight, (half sandwich, cup of soup, salad and a cookie). Very rarely these days do you get a flawless meal but to have 4 different parts of a meal that was great from start to finish and the presentation was beautiful. You could tell the chef took pride in their work. I have received salads at other places, (as we all have), brown wilted lettuce, straight out of a bag, or its old. Not here. We have eaten here twice passing through and now talk about making the hour plus trip just to come and eat!

Blue Heron Cafe has been a long time favorite of my grandma’s. We stopped in for a lovely breakfast the other day. I feel compelled to comment on how kind and patient the staff were with my 90-year-old grandma. The food was delicious and fresh. Lots of healthy options on the menu, and delicious pastries as well. Thank you for a great experience!

If “Cheers” was a breakfast place, this would be it! Definitely a regular spot for townies, greeting each other by name. The food and service was as great as the atmosphere. Home style food and fresh made sourdough bread! This will be a regular spot for us when we travel in the area. Don’t forget to get a freshly made cookies. FABULOUS!!

Food was delicious and filling. Everything is house-made including all the pastries and bread. The staff was very friendly, bathrooms and dining room weee very clean and the restaurant had a very inviting feel. We were a party of three and went on a Saturday morning around 9:30 AM and got a table right away. Our total bill with coffee and an added muffin was $44 for three adults. We will definitely be returning! Thank you for the great experience.

Great little cafe. Counter with nice selection of baked goods. Sandwiches feature unique combinations, all of which are very tasty. Prompt and friendly service. Prices are a bit high, but well worth it.

Best doughnuts in the world! I wish they had these everywhere! But the selection is very low! So don’t always expect there to be some available.

When a place does something right, they don’t need a menu that is 4 pages. That is the quality of Blue Heron Cafe. First of all, they source much of their food from local farms. Win #1. I got the Dearborn ham sandwich. The homemade sourdough bread was grilled, the ham was cut from a ham ( not shavedvham) & it was grilled. Between the bread was herb flavored mayo and a cherry spread with spinach. Win #2. I ordered the lunch special which was a half sandwich, a salad that was lightly dressed in a deliciously sweet vinaigrette, and a cup of cheesy onion soup that was utter perfection for $11.95. Wins#3, 4 & 5. It was supposed to finish with a cookie, but they were out of cookies and allowed us to choose anything out of their bakery case. We had the choice of muffins, cinnamon rolls or donuts. I chose a cranberry almond muffin that had great presentation but fell flat on flavor. Wait staff was spot on and incredibly helpful. I will definitely go back there to try the chicken sandwich my brother in law got that had apple butter on it. I sampled my sister’s chicken soup that was very flavorful and I would guess homemade.

My wife and stopped in on our way home from vacation. We were looking for breakfast or brunch, so I got on good old Google to see what I could find.
