Created by two fathers hoping to provide resources and opportunities for both their families and community, Blakely Chicken was formed in December 1976. The partners—James Mitchell and George L. Hutchins, along with the help and support of their wives, Katheryn and Evelyn, respectively— initially employed family members and close friends to help manage and operate the business. As time passed, the customer base grew to include not only local residents, but also patrons from all over the country.

I’ve been coming here for years when they occupied their former building beside them. It’s a must stop when I travel to the South to my grandparents farm and the fried chicken is A1! This visit I tried their new addition, baked chicken and I prefer the fried. I don’t like my baked chicken light and sitting in its juices(or would’ve been 5 stars) I like it to have a crispy baked texture and seasoned well. Their pound cake, sweet tea and fries (fried crispy) are always great!

The fried chicken was really good. Probably some of the best I’ve had and I would definitely come here again if I was in the area. The Mac n cheese was also very creamy and delicious.

I had high expectations after reading the other reviews, but I was very disappointed. We ate at a 12:30 on a Friday and the chicken was very dry. (I tried fingers and breast) My husband did enjoy the leg he ate. The sides were meh (fries, slaw and mac N cheese). The rolls were straight out of the store bought bag. Based on the amount of chicken that had already been cooked and was sitting under a heat lamp I think I know why my chicken was so dry.

This is an excellent spot to get homemade style chicken. The fried chicken is awesome! They have a drive-thru or you may munch out outside at the benches. I will be back soon.

We’ve eaten here many times over the last several years. Almost always top-notch food, but just like most places, there are going to be some off days (whether it’s due to being short staffed or training new hires). But those few and far between off days don’t stop us from going back, because when it’s right (which is most often), it’s downright incredible!

This is my first visit to Blakely Chicken and will not be my last. I was just passing through on my way to Ozark, Alabama and decided to eat here based on the suggestion of my parents who live in the area during the winter months and recommended the chicken. I’m a big fan of chicken gizzards and was happy to see that they were on the menu and ordered an 18 piece. It is a lot of gizzards and I probably should have only ordered the 12-piece instead, but the flavor is awesome and the crispiness of the batter is excellent. If you like chicken gizzards you cannot go wrong here. They had plenty of chicken ready to go and it all looked delicious. The ladies were very nice and had my order ready in about 5 minutes. I wish they had indoor seating, because it’s a little difficult eating gizzards on the road so I had to enjoy them in the comfort of my vehicle outside the restaurant. They do have two picnic tables outside under a covered awning, but it was raining during my visit and would rather sit in my truck anyways. I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in the mood for fried chicken or fried gizzards. They also have a bathroom inside if you need a place for a pit stop along your travels.
