The atmosphere was fairly good. The service – well, they tried really hard. The food was alright. Tasted fine I suppose and for the most part was plated very well. I got the feeling though that they were just giving us small portions in pretty arrangements to justify overpricing. The prices were certainly not based on taste.

I have driven an hour just to eat here and it was worth it. I’m now a repeat customer. Amazing menu. Salmon with arugula and chevre is out of this world. Excellent drinks. Excellent service. Can’t miss with desserts. May need a reservation.

We visited Bistro 1888 for the first time tonight but it will definitely NOT be our last visit! Let me start by saying that due to COVID; there weren’t many patrons in the restaurant and there was only one server who also worked as the bartender. It did take a while for her to initially serve us but we didn’t mind since we were on a date night and definitely not in a rush. Well, everything was well worth the wait!!! Honestly, once she was finally able to get to our table; everything moved along at a nice pace. We had the shrimp cocktail appetizer, salmon entree, scallops entree, and dessert. Everything was cooked to perfection! I can’t remember the last time I ate scallops that were not overcooked!!! And, someone else mentioned that their menu is overpriced. Apparently, that person doesn’t regularly buy organic food for their family. Their price points are totally in line with what you would expect in a very nice restaurant like Bistro 1888.

On Valentine’s 2017 my husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary dinner at this incredible restaurant. The food was wonderful and the service was outstanding – as if we were the only guests there. We tried to repeat that experience on Valentine’s 2020. As soon as we walked in the door, we could feel there was something wrong. We stood there waiting to be acknowledged for 10 – 15 min while watching the staff run around like their heads we cut off. They were rushing from the kitchen to fill an order for a take-out customer and ignoring the ones that had reservations. The entire vibe of the restaurant was different and unsettling. After we we were finally seated we had two employees checking on us. The drinks and appetizer came quickly but it was another hour waiting for the salad. Before we could finish it, the main course arrived. In total, 1.5 hrs waiting for dinner. We understand holidays can be hectic for restaurants, but something had clearly changed. The food was just OK. The price was not justified. We had dinner the following night at Outback and the food and service was better.

All I can say is WOW! Every bite was absolutely amazing. I ordered the Shrimp Cocktail and Pan seared Tuna appetizer (by far the best and I highly recommend) for starters. Ribeye for dinner, which was cooked to perfection and the best steak I’ve ever had and Cheesecake for dessert. It was the best meal I’ve had in 20 years. The Tuna is amazing, the steak melts in your mouth and the cheesecake was the perfect end to a beautiful experience. Thank you Bistro 1888. Can’t wait for round 2!

The experience was very nice. The ambiance was peaceful and the personnel were very nice and accommodating. The meals were well prepared and the presentation was picture perfect. The desserts were delectable and satisfying. However, the meal and desserts portions are very small. My wife and I really enjoyed Bistro 1888, but for $28 per plate, the portions could be a larger.

Amazing food. I’ve had a few issues with some of the staff, but I don’t let that affect my perception of the food. The yellowfin tuna and calamari are the best apps, and my favorite entree is probably the pork chop. I have yet to try the lamb, but the crab cakes are delicious! Excellent food! Excellent beer/wine selection! Excellent environment!

My wife and I had a wonderful experience here at The Bistro. We celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary here. Very good food, great atmosphere, the service was superb. Victor is top notch, a very good individual and I really enjoyed talking to him. I highly recommend dining here. We will be dining here more often.

We arrived at 7pm for a 7pm reservation, but none of the staff acknowledged us for several minutes. One of our group finally got the attention of a server and we were seated.

It is a small restaurant but they use the space well. I brought my fur baby with me and was not allowed to eat inside the restaurant so ate outside. The the tables were rusted with not table cloth to cover the top. The waitress gave us napkins that some had stains which my mom asked for cleaner ones. She was beginning to place the utensils on the rusted table which I then asked for new utensils to put on top of the napkins. We got our drinks (which I just wanted water). It took about 15-20 minutes to just get our bread which the first batch was not warm like we wanted. The waiter eventually gave us another batch which was warmer but I ended up not eating it. We just ordered entrees which eventually took 45-60 minutes to get to us (it was not that busy of a restaurant). I got the etoufee which was good (after adding salt). My mom said that the oysters were alright but there was only 4 given to her for $19. The waitress was kind of having an tone in her voice as well so instead of the 20% tip I would have given I only gave less than 15% tip. If you are wanting to go to a really upscale restaurant in South Boston, try molasses grill first, not this place. The only reason I gave this place a 2 star was becuase of my meal. Everything else left a bad taste on my mouth.
