Excellent food and service at a reasonable price. Try it. You won’t regret it.

I am only rating this restaurant with one star. The waitress was friendly but other than that it was not worth walking in the door. The food was not up to par whatsoever. I ordered the Gulf Shrimp Platter. It had a total of eight shrimp. They obviously were not fresh but frozen, cooked and left in the pan too long. The plate was garnished with a small pile of shredded lettuce with two dill pickle slices, a very small side, and two cornbread pancakes. They food came out barely warm. For the price of $15, I would have expected a better meal than I was given. I would not recommend this restaraunt.

We were seated directly behind another family and it made having our own conversations awkward because the place was so quiet – yet we were seated so close. The place had an odor of either “old” or mildew. The food was decent (bland flavor…uses a lot of hot sauce for flavor – it’s in the red beans – which was actually pretty good, & in the mac & cheese – which I do NOT recommend, and it lacks salt)…not good enough to make us return. The waitress was very very nice, though not very familiar with the menu.

First time at Big Shirley’s. Service good, facility clean as was the men’s bathroom. Tried the BBQ shrimp different, I liked. The Jersey Catfish was ok, little soft. Very nice folks. We’ll go again.

We had the fried catfish and grilled shrimp. Both were excellent. Tasty and succulent. We started with a small gumbo, that was a true New Orleans dish! Definitely worth a try! We will be back.

Wow! What a surprise. Our family stopped on the way from Texas to Florida. We shared the ribs and seafood platter. Terrific! The corn bread cakes are delicious. And get the candied y as ms on the side. Even the Caesar dressing was good. Didn’t look like much from outside, but I hear they plan to remodel exterior. We may have to swing by on the way back to Texas. Highly recommended.

DIAMOND IN THE RUFF! This place is great. My wife and I read the previous reviews and decided to check it out. We were not disappoint! Had the New Orleans shrimp entree… it was THE BOMB! And the combination platters are a good choice because all the meats are delicious. Great atmosphere and great staff.

Found this place by accident, and boy I must say it’s a diamond in the rough. 18 dollars get you a nice slab of catfish 8 to 10 pieces of shrimp (I doubled down instead of choosing oysters) 3 thick slices of French bread or go with cornbread, your choice! Top that with two sides, once again doubling down on collard greens. A 28 dollar meal inside of a 18 dollar price tag, and I haven’t even started on the atmosphere but I’ll get to that in a moment. I usually get root beer where ever I go, but I wanted to try lemonade. They didn’t have it on the menu, but they made it anyway! Now the outside looks like it’s shut down, but when you venture inside and take a peek, you’ll be greeted with friendly smiles and wonderful jazz music fills the room and the lighting and art work on the walls really makes this place stand out. Nothing but a very wonderful and delicious experience. A must visit if staying a few days in Mississippi.

Staff was friendly, food was delicious! We had beans & rice, house salad, grilled cheese, & jambalaya. Everything tasted great. The hostess brought over coloring books & colors to keep the kids busy while we waited for our food.
