Found this new gem inside canal street market right across Joes steam rolls. Everyone loves a good hainan chicken rice, but this is the Thai version with steamed chicken over ginger rice but with their special Thai ginger sauce. The dishes is very cheap most of them are around $10. I really liked the Khao Man Gai which is the steamed chicken rice. The chicken is very juicy, they use the meat from the thigh so it’s very tender not dry like chicken breast. It’s comes with a bowl of chicken broth as well. If you would like the grilled one too you can get the combo one to try both. Don’t forget to get a Thai ice tea to go with your meal.

Loved the food here! Everything tasted fresh, I especially loved the papaya salad with the chicken as it tasted so perfectly together. The portions are pretty big for the price and it’s affordable. A great place to get yummy food !

This place was probably good when a small chicken over rice cost around $5. And while I understand that the price has to go up eventually, it’s now around $10 with tax. The portion for the small is definitely, well, small. I thought I could make it an entire meal but I was still very hungry afterwards. The cucumber slices were a nice addition to the dish, but the steamed chicken was kind of rubbery and not at all tender. It had some flavor but the real star of the show was the ginger rice. It had such a warm, beautiful flavor. I was really impressed by it, but everything else was kind of a let down. The staff left me waiting by the counter because I needed to pay in cash, and there seemed to be a language barrier between me and the workers because she seemed unsure of what I was saying and pointed to what I wanted on the menus to make sure.

Betong is located inside Canal Street Market and I was craving it the moment you see their menu. They feature some of their menu with images so you know how it looks like! There’s also a kiosk where you can order from.

Betong Chicken Rice has its own brown sauce which is different from Hainanese chicken rice. Their sous vide chickens are tender. Ginger rice is made with the right amount of ginger and chicken stock.
