We’re in New Orleans for a long weekend and wanted something interesting that we can’t get back home. New Orleans is famous for many things but vegetarian food isn’t one of them.

Really enjoyed this African restaurant in the French Quarter. Had the namesake dish and a second entree with black eyed peas along with a lentil soup starter. Unique flavors and presentation, easy to see a Caribbean connection to West African cuisine. Glad we found this spot. The crew is small so service is not super fast if it’s busy.

As a customer of this restaurant since 2002 Bennachin has been my favorite restaurant and a place I have to visit often. The owner and her family as well as the ambiance of the setting transforms you to Africa when you enter the door. The food is consistently phenomenal, I always suggest the Sisay Singho Singh or the Jamaican Chicken both pictured below. Add in a Hibiscus drink and you are set for the day.

the wait is very long and we were the only one ln the restaurant at the time. Despite that. The food was really, really good

Very cute place. The owner / waiter was super friendly. And it was fun to try a cuisine I had never tried before.

Amazingly delicious, well portioned and wallet-friendly gem in the heart of a place where many of the other eateries feel too fried/salty/oily or designed to be tourist traps.

Bland, salty goop and defensive service. They must be drowning in debt to pump out such low quality food. They also wait to seat you at a table before SPOT cleaning the disgusting plastic table cloths, and they clean it with regular Windex-which does NOT disinfect. Literally sat down to have someone else’s meal debris flicked at me.

Went here hoping for something vegetarian. I tried to confirm with the waitress 5 times and she ASSURED me that there was no meat in the vegetable soup. Soup comes out, not only is it clearly made of canned vegetables, but after one taste, I realize it’s definitely chicken broth. Don’t go here and put your health at risk

I was looking for something vegetarian and this definitely hit the spot. This was like a quality meal you would have at your grandmother’s house and everything felt very intimate and personal. The prices are very reasonable. I will definitely be back.
