LOVE THIS PLACE! Very friendly and welcoming owner who helped us first-timers order. We got the mixed meat platter and everything came out exactly as imagined! The pita bread was hot and baked so well and the meat was seasoned perfectly and tasted wonderful. It’s unlike anything else I’ve tried especially with the paprika sauce. Salad was also great too! Would definitely come back!

Our first visit! We split the special mixed meat platter with hummus and salad. Fresh & tasty, great service and good happy hour drink prices. Plenty of parking & nice atmosphere. We’ll be back!

I was sharing some information about my time spent in the Balkans with a client, when he asked if I had been to the Balkan Cafe. I had not and planned to visit for lunch. Cevapi was all I thought of all morning! Such a great, inviting Cafe. The server was awesome! I ordered the Cevapi. It was great! They have a super menu with a variety of beverages. The outdoor space was set up nicely and a great spot for some Turkish coffee with dessert. I’ll certainly go back!

One of the places where people from the Balkans can find their favorite food and refresh their memories . This restaurant is not only about a food. You can meet nice people here and talk about the life in the USA and share memories about the place you or your parents were born. In case you ar 3rd or 4th generation in the USA you might feel nostalgia and wish to visit this part of Europe.

My friends and I had a great dine in experience here! I ordered the Cevapi and shared it with friends. The burger and sandwich were delicious. The meat was well seasoned and cooked. The waitress was really cool, and the decor was fascinating.

This was a terrible dining experience. The bread appetizer was pretty good, the bacon sandwich was so so, but the meat platter special was a total bait and switch of ridiculous overcharging for some of the worst food we have eaten in a long time. The sausage and burger patty were totally flavorless, and the chicken was so rubbery, it was like eating the chicken from a children’s play set. But the worst part came when we got the bill and were charged $25 for that terrible meat platter when NOTHING else on the menu was over about $15, including the steak!

This used to be my favorite restaurant in Austin. I have been here three times altogether, one time in 2018, the second time in 2020, and the third time was just a couple days ago in 2023. The first two times I loved the food, atmosphere, and was generally happy to have a place that specialized in serving Balkan food. The last time I was there, I was disappointed in the lack of variations of options in the food, now there are just options for Paninis and Burgers and although the food was good, I miss when they had more things like the beef stew that better represented food from the Balkans, as for the place itself, there was a table with a couch that me and my friends sat at before and we swore that it would be the go-to spot everytime we would go there, but we were sorely disappointed to see that that room had been taken up by these computer monitors with some built-in flash gambling program on them. I think that this is a place that had gone down because they want to focus more on things like gambling and volleyball to attract customers instead of good food and atmosphere. I genuinely want this place to go back to the way it was because I was so disappointed, like I said this used to be my favorite restaurant but now, I don’t feel compelled to ever come back.

Honestly, couldn’t have been more disappointed on my last visit. I used to go to this place all the time and their Gulas was simply amazing. Now, it seems more like a gambling room with terrible decor and a worse atmosphere, and the food was simply mediocre. I guess it changed management and went in a different direction but it really is a shame. Anyway, if someone has that original Gulas recipe please send it my way.
