Good for a quick bite and you pay by the pound. Service is ok and the ambiance is a little dreary. You do get to watch the food be cooked kind of like hibachi. The sauces are tasty. I got the combo with the curry added and it was sliced well. One of those places you go back to every once in a while.

A friend told us he enjoyed this restaurant so we gave it a try. I was immediately underwhelmed when we walked in and didn’t really know what to do. Didn’t see an employee in sight so we just walked up to the food bar and began filling our bowls for the grill. Limited selection of food. The meat is freeze-dried which was interesting… only had turkey, beef and pork out to choose for meat options (come to find out you can request add ons but theres no menu in sight). We then walked up to the cook and he asked for a ticket, I asked where to get that and he walked away… lol so we found the checkout guy who gave us a ticket. All booth tables were dirty. Not a bit of music or atmosphere. Food was given in Styrofoam take out boxes. Beef had a Grey look to it, I imagine because it’s freeze-dried. Flavor was lacking. We were not impressed.

Like this place a lot. The food is good when you’re in the mood for Mongolian barbecue. I wish they would put out more of the beef because it goes fast. I also wish they had a better selection of drinks. They have bottled sodas but a limited variety. They have gold peak tea in both sweet and unsweet. Would really like to see some zero sugar options for drinks and possibly some house brewed iced tea. This is a go to place for stir fry. The selection of vegetables is outstanding. Fried rice is good but could be a little more authentic with some vegetables in it. It is a good place.

I have loved Bali for years, back to the original spot where Isaac manned the grill. Its changed so much. Lacks the OG flavor, but its still good. Now they charge by the pound and it is overpriced. Last time I went, I got noodles for my bowl as always. When they rang up my total I was a bit shocked and asked, “did yall go up on price?” The cashier said that they had to charge me for rice even though I did not get any. Who would want rice and noodles! I have not been back and will never go again. They lost a customer of 15yrs.

I’ll start by saying that I really used to enjoy this place in it’s old location that burned a few years back. I have gone to the Strickland Road location twice now, but this will probably be my last visit. I went in today for lunch and dutifully loaded up 2 bowls of veggies/meat. Handed it to the person prepping the order for the cook and very clearly asked for 1/2 portion of rice. This was written on the ticket as well. After handing off your food, you have to wait a while until they cook it. I guess I should have waited and kept an eye on things, because when they called me to pick it up, it is placed in a takeout container (styrofoam clamshell) and then you weigh it to determine price. My price came out to $13.80 for 1.7 lbs of food. OK fine. The PROBLEM happened when I got to the table, opened the container, and realized that literally 50% to 70% of what was in the container was RICE! I went back to the checkout and showed them, enquiring as to whether this meets the standard for ‘1/2 portion of rice’ and the guy was essentially just not too concerned. I really felt cheated at that point. What I expected was to remove 1/2 the rice, re-weigh, and get a refund for the difference, but they indicated that they ‘could not do that’. I’ll finish by saying that the food was good, but I threw away > half of the rice, and it just was not even close to worth the cost! I’ve attached a picture of the rice that was left. The entire bottom portion of the container was loaded with rice, and my meat/veggie stir fry fit into the small portion of the container at the top of the pic. So, going forward I refuse to pay $7.50/lb for a bunch of white rice. Not going to happen. Bali Hai may be ‘calling’, but it’s far from my ‘special island’. I can go to lots of other places where they will fix an order that was clearly served in error.

I went here on a whim of nostalgia— haven’t been to Bali Hai since the one in Raleigh burned down. The way they charge for the food changed and is no longer per bowl, it is per pound. The food was still decent, but it was disappointing how much rice they put into the take-out containers prior to weighing. It seemed like half the weight was due to the amount of rice.

It was an awkward experience. First time there and when we walked in we weren’t sure what to do. We sat ourselves and I walked toward the bar where the kind server told me how the sauces worked. There was a very limited options on ingredients for the grill. It was also VERY hot in the dining area…

My wife and I enjoy it for takeout and it’s fine just select what you want cooked on the big grill. My wife likes vegetables with tofu. I prefer the meat dishes.
