Balaton Restaurant Menu – Chagrin Falls, OH

Type : Hungarian restaurant

Location : Chagrin Falls, OH

We have relocated to Bainbridge, reopened February 2023.
Long time constituency now doubled by nearby country dwellers. We are entrusted by their stories of steadfast history countering our family history. With that we feel home again, although the new place is a small place. Here we are shining through by their recognition of slow-cooked food. Here we stand for 65 years as curators of a much longer lineage of culinary development.

Long-running homey eatery (since 1964) serving up large portions of traditional Hungarian fare. Based on 519 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.7 stars. Price $$

I had such an amazing time last night with my family for my birthday!! The food is really good and authentic! You MUST make a reservation! I’m so glad I did! We were seated within a few minutes in a cozy corner spot! Everything on the menu is delicious!! The service is second to none! Our server (006) did not catch her name! Was attentive and friendly! And it was a full house! The owner is very nice and his daughter Vivian was wonderful too! You just can’t get this level of service from a chain! I cannot wait to go back! I highly recommend balaton! I feel like I just created great memories for the future!

The food is great. The service is great. The place is small and reservations are needed weeks in advance. Worth the wait. They do carryout as well.

Wow. A wonderful dining experience. We chose the mushroom appetizer, which was delicious. We also ordered the potato pancake appetizer. It was so large, our whole table had some. They were really tasty, served with applesauce and sour cream. The salad dressing on the salad was delicious. There were 9 of us for my birthday and everyone commented on how much they enjoyed the salad. I chose the weiner schnitzel with spaetzel dumplings. It was cooked to perfection. It was really delicious and I enjoyed my birthday dinner. What huge portions. I brought half home. Everyone of us had leftovers. We all remarked on how delicious everything was. The wait staff (I believe her name was Jennifer) was friendly, attentive and very efficient. Can’t say enough great things about Balaton. I am Hungarian so I really know if the dishes are authentic and these were. Wonderful place.

Food was great. Generous serving of wine. Server was polite and engaging but as their website states, they don’t have many servers, therefore it’s slow. Lights blinked the whole time we were there. I’m sensitive to such things so wasn’t happy about that. Must make a reservation. Saw people turned away because they didn’t. Overall, a good time!

Edit in response to the owner’s reply: your glib response today is reflective of the frankly rude and dismissive attitude displayed by your staff last night. Clearly it wasn’t a one off occurrence, but rather is representative of the business culture of this establishment. The woman who so rudely denied me service was extremely curt and literally walked away from me mid-sentence when I was trying to ask her if closing early was a normal occurrence, as I had hoped to try to the restaurant during my next business trip to Cleveland. No mention was made by her of reservations being required when I was in the restaurant last night and there certainly was no signage reflecting that “policy” at your establishment. While you are not required to have such signage, as someone who managed high end dining establishments in the past, your “policy” (which is advertised nowhere except in fine print on your website) seems like an arbitrary and capricious way of denying service to customers based on a whim. As someone who has subsequently worked in the legal world, one can only wonder how often this “policy” is used to deny service to protected classes? The dismissive and glib nature of your reply rings true of the typical mom n pop “I’ll do whatever I want” attitude.
