The bread here is incredible. It is crisp, and flaky, and porous in all the right ways. It makes an incredible banh mi, or buy a package of rolls and make perfect garlic bread or a great cheese steak. I come here every time I go to Philly!

This was easily one of the best banh mi that I have ever had in my life! The bread was perfectly chewy with a soft interior, the tofu was well cooked and seasoned so flavorfully, and it was packed with plenty of both fresh and pickled vegetables— topped with herbs! I dream of these sandwiches now, haha.

I stop by at least once per week to get the sesame balls and Vietnamese egg rolls. They are amazing if you can catch them when they are fresh out of the fryer, but also revive very nicely in an air fryer or toaster oven at 350° for 4 minutes. I’m always trying new things here, and even when something isn’t my favorite flavor, it’s still well made and it’s amazing to experience authentic Vietnamese recipes!

A lot of good banh mi options. And there are other authentic VN snacks and desserts.

Bale Bakery in Philadelphia offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere, and their pastries and baked goods were once known for their exceptional quality. However, recent visits have shown that the food is not as good as it used to be.

They served me a traditional banh mi that had ants cooked into the white Vietnamese sandwich meat. I’m shocked that it wasn’t quality controlled and chucked before being put into the sandwich. At first glance, I thought it was black peppercorn but it was very clear that a row of ants was smashed into the meat as part of the cooking process. Then I found another ant in another piece of the white sandwich meat. !

Wide selection of Vietnamese sandwiches, desserts, chè, and ready to eat meals. The prices are high, but it’s acceptable because the quality of the food is also high.

I drive do to Ba Le twice a month. I would go more but I live 40 minutes away on a good day. It’s worth the trip. If you love the flavors of Vietnam, then this is the spot for you. There’s too much to cover, so I’ll tell you that I get a banh mi, summer roll (usually the vegetarian), bag of pork spring rolls, an ice cafe and couple of the condiments. The folks there are super friendly and helpful. Hope this helps. Oh, it’s super busy on the weekends in the morning.

Absolutely my favorite place to eat in philly. Crispy pork banh mi 10/10 lemongrass chicken banh mi 10/10. The sandwiches are the best ive ever had. The bread is golden quite literally. Also love the selection of prepared foods/ ingredients. I always get some rice cakes and viet deli meats. The staff are efficient and sweet. Ba Le deserves ur business and kindness. Cannot say enough food things.
