If you’ve never had Eastern African food, you need to try Asmara. Very friendly service, fantastic food. I highly recommend the Honey wine.

Wow! I had been missing food from the Horn of Africa, and this restaurant did not disappoint! The flavors were delicious and complex and it was great to meet the owner. Each entree could feed 2 people and comes with sides.

Very flavorful, simply delicious and incredibly friendly and attentive staff. My first time here with my friends…and we already planned the next time when finishing up the meal. Also a colorful and interesting decoration.

This was my wife and I’s first time trying Eritrean food. It’s a very similar concept to Ethiopian food which we have had before. Very please with our experience here! The food was delicious, with very generous servings with the Entre’s! the atmosphere and service were great! My only recommendation for this restaurant would be to provide extra injera bread on the side, just because you can’t access it all as the entre’s sit on top of it. Overall very satisfied, will definitely be back!

I recently brought a couple of friends here for their first Eritrea experience. We had the vegetarian sampler. It was plenty of food for four people. Amazing as always. If it’s busy, do yourself a favor and wait for a table.

Loved every bite of their food and sip of their wine. So delicious. And such warm staff.

Interesting option in the Portland area, but overpriced for what you get. Maybe there would be an extra star if I was dining with more people and could try more options (it felt like a sharing-esque menu), but the modest bread and meat choice for close to $20 was priced higher than it should have been.

The huge portions, incredibly flavorful food, and the experience of both eating with your hands and trying something (most likely) new should be enough cause to check this place out! Keep your expectations of atmosphere low; this place is all about the food and the folks cooking it for you.

Incredible comfort food. I ordered the shiro and my partner got a lamb dish, for takeout – both were astounding, but I have to say the shiro was a big winner. The cinnamon sweet tea was lovely too. Just the right amount of warmth.

The food rules and the iced tea is a perfect compliment! A rad spot for lunch or a cute dinner date!
