Found this restaurant during my google search hunt for African food. The owner is very hospitable and kind. The food was delicious! Very enjoyable, flavors on point and not salty. I got the “Red Red” dish, which consisted of beans, red stew and sweet plantains. Yes, the plantains were sweet! Nice and tender as well! Please tell your family and friends about this amazing place. You will not be disappointed. Thank-you Michael for your delicious foods and service!

I had a wonderful time at Asanka! Chef Michael was amazing- he took the time to explain the dishes and also made suggestions on what to get. We had Egusi soup, one with chicken and one with trout. Also had fufu and Iyan and a side of sweet plantains. I came all the way from Brooklyn, NY. I will definitely be back. Thank you!

Are you feeling adventurous? My son and I had never eaten African Cuisine, but are open to new experiences. The proprietor, Michael, is very friendly and welcoming. Bring your appetite, because the portions are huge! We sampled the peanut soup and it does not taste like you’d think… It has a spicy kick! In fact both dishes that we ordered had an interesting spiciness to them. We shared plates, and found that taking bites with a little of each item on the plate in each bite made a sort of synergistic enhancement. For example, taking some of the spinach with goat meat, spices and fried plantain made each of the different flavors work together in your mouth. My son wasn’t fond of the beans and rice mixture, but everyone’s taste is different. I highly recommend trying this restaurant, it may or may not work for your palette, but you’ll enjoy the experience and Michael’s hospitality.
