I’ve gone numerous times (a huge plus for working in Galveston). The portions of food is amazing, I only know a handful of grown men who have finished a plate in a single sitting. Now to the food quality, this food right here is nothing short of delicious. The smothered pork chops and the ox tails are perfect. The okra & tomatoes, greens, candy yams, black eyed peas, broccoli rice & cheese all of it remind me of my great grandmothers cooking back in east Texas. Hands down a hidden gem in Galveston.

This is a neighborhood restaurant with huge portions and great local atmosphere. We were in Galveston and wanted something local and not touristy. This was it we were not disappointed. The staff knew everyone that came in and greeted them by name. The menu is small but what they offer is amazing, soul food at its finest , come hungry because the portions are huge.

Best food I ever tasted in Galveston it reminded me of my grandmother’s cooking , it made me feel at home, and the customer service was amazing they treat you like family even if your a stranger. I would highly recommend Allen’s if your feeling home sick or just in the mood for soul food it’s the best in down.

Only taking off a star because they opened later than posted making me run behind. Even the sign in the window said they should have been open. But the food was excellent and I’ll definitely be back. Probably not before I have to be at work though.

Hands down, the best place to eat in Galveston! Everything made there is delicious. Definitely try the broccoli rice casserole and the mac and cheese for sides.
