alaMar is owned by Top Chef contestant Nelson German and has some of the most delicious garlic noodles ($19) I’ve ever tasted–saucy, garlicky, and topped with a crispy fried egg. *chef’s kiss* While delicious, the meal can get a bit pricey, so take advantage of those restaurant week deals while you can. We ate here with our extended family (7 adults and 1 child) and everyone enjoyed their meal. Our kid ate a decent amount of garlic noodles, though I think we may have had to ask for the non-spicy versions of certain dishes. There is a fenced patio area on the wide sidewalk with heat lamps that is perfect for families. They offer high chairs, but I can’t vouch for a changing table…

Great meal. Our snow crab platter was 70.00, and plenty of leftovers Noodles were thick and tasty. Sauce was on point. No boiled eggs, but still a GREAT meal!!!

My wife and I loved the food and the service here. Our waiter was super nice and attentive. The food was all excellent. Check out the pics. My wife was super happy with her Crab Boil, and I enjoyed my Curly Fries & the “Fried Rice” immensely. For drinks, they have Oakland United Beer, which is awesome cause I loe that place.

This place is wonderful. I had the vegetarian stew and I’ve had it before. But they have a new recipe and it’s seasoned so well, it’s pretty, lol, and it’s a huge portion. I do wish that they had more vegetarian dishes, but they always have new things on the menu when I come, which is a plus and I love that they do that.

My favorite eatery in Oakland that I’ve tried! We ordered potluck style and tried each other’s food. My devote was the French toast and curry shrimp with plantains.

If you’re looking for style over substance then you’ll love this place. The food is over cooked, to the point of almost being inedible. The fried goat was so overcooked and hard that it was more like table scraps you’d feed to a dog. The shrimp was also over cooked – dried out and rubbery, more like a shrimp favored sponge. The pork roast was surprisingly not over cooked, but was instead flavorless and sitting in a pool of greasy white “sauce” that I think was just mayonnaise. The wait staff is unhelpful – not mentioning that in order to actually enjoy a meal you have to order side dishes or else all you have to eat is over cooked proteins on small plates. The hostess was unsmiling, unfriendly, and began our meal by telling us there was a 1.5 hr. time limit. The space is pleasant enough, but the tables are so crammed together than my elbows bumped the person at the table next to us. And the music is so loud that my wife and I couldn’t talk. After an hour and $70 spent, I left hungry. We got Lumpia from a delightful place around the corner, which was 100x better and more of a complete meal. So

Fast casual dining dine really well. Good idea is to arrive early. Grab a drink and just enjoy yourself. The seafood is fresh and the sauces are great. My favorites are the Romesco sauce and the Curry sauce. Do not miss out on the meat items either! The Oxtails are some of the best in the area.

Wow, y’all, this place was awesome! Good vibes galore! The chef brings unique and fun flavor to classic seafood dishes. The crab, in particular, came in an incredible savory garlic sauce-would recommend ordering the bread as a side to take full advantage. We had an awesome dinner here, complete with good vibes from the whole staff! Highly recommend for a casual but nice seafood dinner downtown

Sunday brunch was tasty and different. The Chefs creative blend of American classics and his childhood NYC Dominican foods brings a fresh twist his seafood creations. This restaurant has a mention in the Michelin food guide! I did not give it 5 stars only because the menu online was different from what was available upon arrival. The menu changes more often than what I thought as he serves fresh local foods by the season. So the dish I was expecting was not available but I will call first to make sure before driving an hour to get there.
