This Subway turned Sushi chic is truly a hidden gem. I’ve now been here in several times and can say they are consistently amazing. The owner, Bird is personable and super friendly. His staff makes sure you’re well taken care of and their service is fantastic. The decor in here is done well even with it being built into a gas station. Wanna know how good the is? The regulars that come here have a special shelf and casing where their personal chop sticks are kept. The fish is as good and as fresh as any high end sushi spot in the area. The rolls are works of art and you can tell all the ingredients in each one were well thought out to compliment one another and the final flavor of the roll. I’m excited to try the Omakase dinner they have. If you haven’t tried Gas Station Sushi, there’s no time like the present.

First timers and we cannot wait to go back! Arrived at 5 and were seated immediately. Very friendly and helpful waitstaff. Wait time for food was perfect.

One of the best sushi in town, family owned small business that treats you like family. Have patience it’s a small place hidden in gas station that serves quality food.

As evidenced by other reviews, this is one of the best sushi places in the area. It’s a small dining room with about 10 tables and with only 2 servers it can be a little longer of a wait, but the quality and availability of options were definitely worth the wait. We had the gyoza, tuna tar tar, land and sea roll, spider roll, and four types of sashimi. Overall, everything was very delicious and we look forward to coming back!

I recently visited Akami in Apex, a sushi establishment nestled within a gas station. Despite the eyebrow-raising setting, I ventured forth to explore their offerings. My husband’s reaction, upon learning of my plan, was a mix of concern and amusement – conjuring images of packaged gas station sushi. Nonetheless, I persisted. This marked my second visit to Akami, drawn back by memories of their premium Chirashi from the first time. Perhaps it was hunger or the abundance of fish that lured me in again. My order consisted of several nigiris (Otoro, Tamago, Conch), sashimi moriwase, and a Phat Roll. The restaurant’s generosity with both rice and fish was evident, yet the overall experience left me underwhelmed. The nigiri suffered from imbalanced rice-to-fish ratio and lacked the essential vinegar touch for their sushi rice. Unfortunately, the Otoro’s presentation was subpar and the Conch fell short in terms of freshness. However, there was a bright spot – their wasabi soy dressing carried a memorable kick. I was intrigued enough to inquire about purchasing it, but my hopes were dashed as they don’t sell it. On a practical note, parking proved to be a hassle with a mere handful of spots available. Despite the acclaim, I’m left wondering about the basis for the stellar reviews. Akami might resonate with those prioritizing quantity, but for someone who values the nuances of quality, it’s not the right fit.

This was such a fantastic sushi restaurant in the most unexpected of places. We had two rolls (a Spider roll and the Land and Sea roll), both of which were fantastic. Definitely suggest stopping in

Was in Cary for a week and we were really craving sushi. Thank goodness we stumbled on Akami! We made a reservation, highly recommend as there is limited seating inside, and the food was incredible. This is easily the best Japanese food in the area for miles. We recommend the scorched Salmon so so so much! Also, the family liked this place enough that we all got matching t-shirts!

Akami is the best sushi you’ll find in North Carolina! Everything on the menu is amazing. We had a private event and everyone left happy saying that Akami was the best sushi they’ve ever had before.
