Agnes is a restaurant & cheesery in Pasadena, CA from chef/owners Vanessa & Thomas Tilaka Kalb, inspired by the timeless tradition of gathering around a table with loved ones to share good food, good drinks and of course, excellent cheese.

Named after Kalb’s maternal grandmother, Agnes has lunch and dinner Tues – Sat. Located in the historic district of tree-lined Green Street, the restaurant is housed in the former horse stable of the Fire Department with indoor/outdoor seating.

I’ve been meaning to try Agnes for ages now and it did not disappoint. We went for lunch and split everything which was plenty. We had the fried cheese curds, butter lettuce salad (the dates were smoked ), the Italian sandwich and banana pudding. The sandwich wasn’t a massive sub, but a well crafted melange of flavors that my husband put in his top 5. I quite enjoyed the fried cheese curds with the dill and acid.

Amazing food, amazing music, amazing service, amazing building. We loved this place. We had the loaded potato dumplings and it was unbelievable. Also the goulash alla vodka and the grilled green been that were both very solid. They have seasonal menus, but I really hope I will be able to have those loaded potato dumplings again in the future. It was a party in my mouth.

Agnes was featured on Localish. The segment introduced the owner whose passion is all things cheese. We ordered the mushroom frittata, crème brûlée cheese toast, half and half board, Agnes’s version of the Bloody Mary and coffees.

We’re so lucky to get seated rightaway on a Saturday night! We were originally waitlisted at its neighbour, but we did not want to wait so here we are HAHA ! We do not have any expectations of this restaurant because we were just hungry and impatient HOWEVER, this restaurant is surprisingly pretty GOOD!

You know the place is good when you’re eating there and making plans to come back. Was there for brunch and have to go back for dinner because Agnes does so many things right! First, the restaurant is spacious w it’s indoor and outdoor spaces w an inviting vibe. Second, the brunch/ lunch menu had a good mix of savory and sweet offerings- naturally we got one of each. Quiche of the day and the Sticky Toffee pancakes. Quiche was good but nothing particularly special. But the Sticky Toffee pancakes were swimming in toffee syrup and not for the faint of heart! Delicious.

We ordered the 3 cheese board with truffle cheese, cauliflower, and potato dumplings. The truffle cheese was the highlight. For dessert we had the banana pudding. Everything was delicious! The sourdough bread was excellent too. I’d definitely return. The dessert wine was interesting, the only thing I wouldn’t get again.

What an amazing experience! I have been back for both dinner and brunch and it has exceeding my expectations each time. The service is always wonderful as is the food and the atmosphere. Highlights include the tater tots, corn bread eclair, green oak lettuces (must have!), radiators in red sauce and the goulash a la vodka. For brunch, the star of the show were the pancakes and the pimento cheese omelette . The wine list is great and the cocktails (and mock tails) always hit the spot. Agnes was one of my favorite spots during my month spent in LA — I will be dreaming about the home cooked food made with so much love. Thank you for a great experience!

My first experience here with my finance was very pleasant. Our server was friendly and answered all of our questions. The food was 5/5 stars. I had the bacon benny and my fiance had some tater tots smothered with an egg, avocado, cheese, and more. We also shared a 2 cheese and 2 meats board. I can’t wait to visit again, but I only recommend this place for the bacon benny. I’d come here just got the bacon benny. Ignore everything else and just get the bacon benny. The bacon benny can be shared, is heavy to say the least.

Top notch in every way! Beautiful interior design and collection of plates (the green dotted table top and pink napkin really caught me), lovely service, and wonderful food.
