Omakase here was truly a wonderful experience. The chef/owner is incredibly personable and the overall dining experience was very comfortable and really embodied “family” vibes. The bluefin tuna was absolutely to die for and it was really fun passing the certification around for it which includes where it was caught and everything. I’ve tried to include (oops out of focus/blurry) photos of everything. This was truly an experience I can’t recommend enough for anyone celebrating a special occasion!! (Will probably force my boyfriend to come here for our anniversary!) I’ve only had omakase before in Melbourne (which was also amazing) but I wouldn’t say I was full afterwards. I was surprisingly full after omakase here at Hikari. They truly put their heart and soul into picking ingredients and preparing amazing well-balanced dishes and even when picking chefs for hire. This place is a gem!

The MOST amazing sushi experience I have ever had. A reservation is a must – the restaurant is very cozy. We dined at the sushi bar and chef was very personable, hospitable, and generous. The entire meal was carefully thought out – from the dishes and glasses to the first courses and then the main meal. Toro was the special and it melted in my mouth. This was an incomparable meal. I can’t wait to go back for another special occasion!

Full omakasi experience includes 19 course tasting menu. The menu rotates based on availability of ingredients and seasonality. They source locally whenever possible.

Surprised there is a reasonably priced omakase outside the Bay Area. Everything was extremely fresh and the chef explained all the dishes, including provided authenticity certificates for some of the fish and wagyu. Will definitely be back!

It would be very easy to tell you this place has fantastic food. Sushi and sashimi of the highest caliber and an eating experience that is not to be missed even if you have to come up from LA. Yes, it is that good. However, what’s going on here at Hikari Sushi & Omakase is beyond just “good food”. This is a place where you are enveloped in the art and passion of a team of shokunin – artisans of sushi. First, as you enter, you are greeted by a small but tastefully decorated room. There’s humility in the décor with no wasted space at the front of house. Nothing is too bright or loud. Every possible need is seen to right away, including built in phone chargers at the bar seating. There’s an effortless, deceptively simple luxury to the place that a connoisseur will immediately find themselves impressed with.

Very high quality food and good service. The value for the omakase is pretty good. We got the omakase San and every piece was tasty, but the toro and king salmon were my favorite. Was nice to try real wasabi too.

Another amazing dinner! We went back a 2nd time, and the dinner was as delicious as the 1st time! The owner and his staff make the dining experience one to remember. This is by far the best omakase we have had the pleasure of enjoying in the Northbay/Sacramento Valley area.

My first personalized fine dining experience that left me with nothing but the highest expectations for any other restaurant. The chef and his family provided such a person to person experience with everybody, recognized faces from his last sushi gig at a local co-op market, and remembered peoples personalities. I had not seen him in years but was still welcomed and treated so kindly as a person not just a customer. The service is just a bonus that adds to the immense flavors and passion in the food. Every dish was an experience on its own and most of them were a new food for me. Between the sourcing of the ingredients and the proteins, the preparations, and the sheer quality, this was one of, if not THE best dining experience I have ever had. The price is very reasonable for the amount of food you are getting and the environment you are seated in. Everything was designed and made by the family to fit the modern yet traditional style and space.

This is a brand new, small family restaurant. Family should be an operative word here. The cook, sous chef and people who take care of customers are family and really nice people. They offer high quality sushi during the week but on Friday and Saturday they have one seating at 7 pm for a fantastic dinner experience of 7-9 plates. The quality of the fish and the overall food was amazing. Because there is only one cook, service will be a bit slow. So enjoy the ride and go with no pressure. Experience takes about 2.5 hours. Cost is above average, but remember this is a dining experience. Owners still need to fine tune the experience, but I hope the city rallies behind this new restaurant and keep it afloat. We need this type of dining experiences in Davis.
