Urdaneta is a Chef driven regional Spanish tapas restaurant. The casual environment brings back the old world fun of tapas and libations, encompassing what the food is meant to be. In essence, Urdaneta combines big and bold Spanish flavors with a modern interpretation. Our house craft cocktails, Spanish wines and sherries, and Basque sidra play the perfect counterpart, in our vibrant tapas culture. The open kitchen and bar provide a sense of intimate and communal dining, offering every guest a front row seat to the action and heart of what we do. Owned by Basque and Spanish Chef, Javier Canteras, in Portland, Oregon. We currently offer reservations for indoor dining and covered, outdoor patio seating.
Comfortable, chic choice for creative Spanish small plates paired with craft cocktails & wine. Based on 556 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.8 stars. Price $$

We are a party of 6 on a Friday night. Reservation was at 5 pm and the restaurant was full by 530. Reservation is a must for bigger parties. The food was amazing. My favorite dishes were the foie gras and Jamon Y Melon.

Pretty good meal, especially the pintxos! Creative food (especially the foie gras on the banana bread!) and beautiful space. Our server didn’t ask our preferences for the vermouth flight and randomly came back with some even though we knew what we wanted to try, but otherwise good.

Have been meaning to try this place for a while now and finally made it this weekend. Excellent food and lovely service. Morcilla (house made blood sausage with quail egg), Pulpo (grilled octopus), and the basque cheese cakes are must haves! The aerated truffle potato base in the pulpo was so delicious. Some other highlights are Mazamorra, the grilled peppers, and their off the menu Oregon shrimp tapas. Definitely my new favorite Spanish restaurant in town 🙂

Wow! Just wow! I’ve been to Spain and I hate to say it but the tapas and pinchos at Urdaneta blow them out of the water. This gem of a restaurant consistently puts out phenomenal food and service to boot. Do yourself a favor and order whatever the server reccomends. This was such a fantastic spot for my wife and I to have a date night. No meal here is complete without the burnt basque cheese cake, it is simply divine!!

our server, andre, has made this (and my partner’s) dining experience among the top 5 experiences we’ve ever had at a restaurant, and baby we love to EAT!! I also never feel inclined to write a review, let alone add photos; but this was such a special meal that we’ll never forget.

Toro Bravo, Little Bird, and Blue Hour are gone. These were the kind of places that made PDX a booming foodie town by making fine dining and high-level service accessible for townies and tourists alike. Urdaneta remains, and it’s better than ever.

Urdaneta is truly a special place. Reservations are a must for this small and quiet setting that affords the staff the time to ensure an intimate experience. My only caution might be the Jamon y Melon. Spectacular as the presentation was, I found the meat disappointing given its reputation and cost. That said, I would return and certainly recommend them.

What a place! Honestly, I’ve never been the biggest fan of Spanish tapas. At least the ones I’ve had before have been kind of one dimensional and too rich. But Urdaneta puts a unique spin on tapas and really achieves that balance of salty, sweet, umami, and acid that I look for in a great dish. The almond gazpacho was one of the most unique and delicious things I’ve had! Salud!
