I recently had the pleasure of dining at Uncle Lao Chinese Restaurant, and I must say it was a truly enjoyable experience. The restaurant’s inviting atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing aromas were a treat.

Food was good, we had twice cooked pork, chicken and broccoli and the mixed fried rice. Wish the mixed fried rice had more Chinese sausage. Had to ask for some forks multiple times before we could ear. Also never got water for our table while every other table did, not sure if you are suppose to ask for water.

Great place in Chinatown, the atmosphere was bright and lively. The Kung Pao chicken was okay, it could have been a little more spicy. The beef chow fun was delicious sweet and savory. The steamed chicken dumplings were a great appetizer. Quick and timely service.

What an incredible experience! Not only was the food fantastic, but the level of service and customer appreciation was outstanding. Despite the busy Friday night crowd, the hostess was attentive, informing everyone about available tables as people left. I noticed the gentleman behind the bar, who I believe was Uncle Lou, greeting numerous familiar faces by name. He even took the time to clean the bar personally. Once seated, we ordered the Crispy Garlic Chicken, beef with Chinese broccoli, and some delicious chicken dumplings. The beef and garlic with rice noodles were especially delightful. As we finished our meal, Uncle Lou, as I’ll refer to him, came to our table to express gratitude and inquire about our dining experience. We engaged in a brief conversation about our homes, and he thanked us again. Reviewing the bill, I realized he hadn’t charged me for my bar beverage. I brought this to his attention, and he acknowledged it with a tap on his chest, expressing gratitude for my honesty. I can’t thank “Uncle Lou” enough for providing such an exceptional and attentive experience. It was indeed a masterclass in excellent service.

Great place for food. The only bad thing is they are short staff and a high demand of people here. This place is a very popular place in the area. The food is good they are best known for the chicken. In my opinion this place is pretty good and I would come here if you could. The staff here are really nice and funny. I think they deserve lots of business. One last reason is they give some really good desert after your done eating (It is free).

Tasty food at a reasonable price! Came here after waiting half an hour at another restaurant in the area before getting hangry and giving up. So glad the restaurant wasn’t too busy in the afternoon and was immediately seated.

Uncle Lou’s is the restaurant that was made for the folks who love Chinatown and to honor the “Lo Wah Kew” per Pete Wells NYT review. While I agree with that statement as the menu boasts plenty of traditional Cantonese dishes that you’d normally find in those larger family style restaurants, however the folks dining here are the exact opposite. I brought my family here and the service was sadly not present here. We ordered the steamed flounder and normally, a waiter would present this dish, separating the bones from the fish meat. It’s a whole presentation – that did not happen here. This place is a tourist attraction and for those IG foodies that want good photos. The dishes we ordered were good but nothing stood out in particular except that the black pepper scallops had too much black pepper. The menu offers a good variety of dishes, perhaps I didn’t order it. And the salt and pepper squid was not of the olden days, they modified the ingredients that didn’t resemble that classic dish.

Very busy restaurant. Expect to talk loud. Make reservations if you are a group. People were waiting outside. Try the Lo Wah Kiu specials. Best dish for me was stuffed eggplants, chilies and fried tofu with black bean sauce. First time trying stuffed tofu. One note, no air conditioning.
