This is a 23 star restaurant. Hands down the best restaurant in Orange County. Chef Nicks take on the modern French bistro Is exactly what Orange County needs .The food the laid back ambiance is perfect. Most french (or even South Coast) restaurants are so stuffy and uncomfortable. This one is perfect for date night or family dinner? It’s an absolute perfect place.

Excellent service! Beautiful decor… Good food!! Enjoyed their sea food dish. French onion soup is a bit too salty for me

I love this new French bistro located inside South Coast plaza. The atmosphere is casual and approachable. Chef Nick prepared deceptively simple but delicious dishes. We all loved Ladies Who Lunch salad. The ratatouille paired well with the charred house potato bread. The gnudi with brown butter and the grilled octopus were sublime. The duck breast and steak were soft and flavorful. The chocolat and Paris Brest desserts were delightful and not too sweet.

This new restaurant location is where Lawry’s Carvery used to be and the lay out is exactly the same. Got the 3 course meal for lunch and the duck confit was perfectly cooked. Restaurant was not busy at all on a weekday, only a few tables taken.

Honestly was not expecting more than a serviceable meal due to the mall location but there is some serious cooking going on here. Almost everything we ordered was great to exceptional. Only miss was the burger.

The Best new restaurant at South Coast Plaza! Conveniently placed by Macy’s Men and Saks Fifth- it’s easy to park or Valet and walk in. The food is absolutely sensational. Freshly prepared, well seasoned, and a great variety. Gluten free options are marked on the menu. Wine list is well appointed. There was also a pre fixe menu special when we went as well. Great for lunches or date night!

A fun experience and some good dishes. We got 2 appetizers. The duck confit spliffs were great . The sauce is hot and spicy. Loved that. The escargot ebelskivers were okay. The ebelskiver batter was buttery and perfect texture. The escargot inside was meh. I didn’t think the sauce complimented the dish. We also had two entrées. The send gnudis were fantastic and I highly recommend that. It is not a big meal at all so you can try other things on the menu too. We had the Spanish Octopus and that was very good quality and a beautiful presentation. We finished with Depeche Mode or peaches and cream dessert. I wouldn’t recommend that dish. The gnudi and spliff made it worth it though. The decor is casual and playful.

Chef Nick is the best! What a fabulous experience my nephew & I had at his Chef’s Table. Every bite was unique and bursting with flavor! Nick was generous with his time and explained his creations with enthusiasm. It’s obvious he loves what he does. I look forward to another Chef’s Table at Populaire!

One of the best French bistro restaurants we have visited. Curtis, our server, is a real gem. An Open Kitchen allows you to see the chef and his assistants working. There is an Open dining room with a modern flair and great wall art for a light and airy experience which reduces the reflected noise found so often in high end restaurants these days (like Il Fornio). We just got back from Portugal where Octopus is found on almost all restaurant menus in many different variations. It is rare to find a high end restaurant which serves it here in the states. The octopus I had was a dream confection of tastes I had not encountered before eating it. Marvelous! I also had the Onion soup which is a meal in itself and delicious. My spouse wasn’t as hungry so she had the Ratatouille which is also a meal in itself. So, don’t over order or you’ll have a lot to take home. THe menu is limited but that is not a problem. There is enough variety and tastes to satisfy anyone with a discerning palate. Go and enjoy one of the best meals you will ever have.
