The food here is awesome. The cuisine is Korean comfort food. I had the kimche burger and south gate fries. The burger was perfectly cooked and was amazing! The south gate fries were awesome and should not be missed. I had mentioned to our server that I wanted to try the burger but I wanted to come back for the Korean fried chicken. After our meal our server brought out 2 pieces of fried chicken wings for us to try. This may have been the best chicken wings I have ever had. I am not being hyperbolic it was awesome. They also have really cool cocktails. I would suggest you come during their happy hour for their food and drink specials.

Very cool spot, located in a nice neighborhood. Food was a new fun twist and was absolutely delicious. The pork dumplings were very flavorful, and the fries chicken was really special. The blend of seasoning was really delicious and something I’d eat again for sure. Service was great too.

This place didn’t disappoint. Staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, tasty and well seasoned. I had the Korean version of a whiskey sour and it was good. If you’re in or visiting Philly, I would highly recommend checking this place out.

My husband and I were going to Plays and Players Theater, and decided to try Southgate as it’s only a 5 minute walk. What a find! The place is intimate, inviting, has a beautiful bar and an open kitchen, with a very welcoming staff. Happy hour kept our DELICIOUS meal VERY affordable. We enjoyed the burger of the month, the kimchi burger, cooked perfectly MR and juicy without being messy; spicy pork tacos, which, while not very spicy (3.5 on a scale of 1 to 10) were PACKED with savory flavors of garlic, soy, and (I think) gochugaru; southgate fries were crisp and well seasoned, and sprinkled with sesame seeds and herbs; and the four small plates of bonchon (kimchi, crispy tofu, spicy zucchini and pickles) were a perfect complement to the meal. Two glasses of red sangria (me) and two soju punches (him) and the EXCELLENT service from a staffer who answered all our questions made for a VERY enjoyable experience! Try it!

This place is special. On a nice corner in Philly and it has one of the top 2 burgers in the city. Right there with Rex. The kimchi burger was so damn good and it was not spicy at all. The kimchi just added flavor. Had the pork bao buns as well which were great. My friends and the ramen and bimpap bowl. They have a pretty good happy hour special and delicious Sapporo on tap. Definitely try it out.

Really great service & seems like the happy hour drink specials are a good deal & very popular. Felt the food could have been a lot more flavorful. Got the dolsot bibimbap & the sauce mainly tasted like salt/soy sauce; I could not taste gochujang or sesame oil at all really. Good presentation though
