It was our first time for the location and the type of cuisine, but we loved it! The crepe/tortilla type thing was tangy and easy to tear into smaller pieces and pick up the food (since they do not have or use utensils). The place is decorated in traditional art, fabric, and figures. The service was fantastic-very warm and welcoming! We enjoyed the food overall, but the “spicy” options were NOT spicy, and the not spicy options were quite bland. When we go back, we’ll be bringing salt and pepper for sure since they didn’t offer it.

Wanted to share some Ethiopian food with my partner and friends. Was a little disappointed at the menu (we are vegetarian and were hoping for a more typical share platter like you typically see). And surprised that extra injera was charged extra. Overall prices seemed reasonable. The food was pretty decent (fairly obviously warmed up) and well spiced, although the quantities were not great. The service was the most underwhelming aspect, with our hostess not being willing to split the bill onto two credit cards for some reason and generally treating us coldly. We will not return.

First time dining here was excellent!! The woman was so nice and patient with us trying to pronounce the food. The experience of eating with our hands was so much fun and the food was AMAZING!!! Great price too! This is a cute little place, don’t hesitate because Ethiopian food isn’t food you’re accustomed to eating… you only live once! This is a restaurant we will be coming back to!

The server seemed very intolerant and short tempered overall. The customer service was very poor and seemed to be lacking in care. The food was relatively tasty, but not much variety and VERY expensive.

Bold colors, artistic tapestries, masks, hand-woven pieces and baskets, various pictures depicting people and places unknown, and the sounds and visuals of traditional music and festive, energetic videos in the background all add to the decor and feeling of visiting the chefs own home for a meal prepared just for you. From the kitchen close by the aromas and sounds are both inviting and intoxicating, this heightening the anticipation of your meals arrival. When it does, time-tested and honored ingredients and spices meld together to create magic. Simple, yet complex at the same time. Where else can you scoop up each savory morsel with your original utensil, just like all our ancestors did, then eat the “plate” the meal sits on

Zagol has been my favorite restaurant for over a decade. Background: I’ve had Ethiopian food at hundreds of different restaurants, in 7 total countries, and this is consistently the best food I’ve ever had. Shita, the owner, has run her entire restaurant single-handedly for years, from making every dish herself to serving them for you.. she’s an absolute rockstar. it’s a wonderfully relaxing, beautiful environment – the perfect place to take your time and enjoy thoughtful, world-class fair (with several delicious options for vegans and meat eaters alike!) & Good company. ….I cannot say enough about this place, how amazing Shita is, and the food. Just GO!

So good! 3 dishes plus the Ethiopian house made beer was more than enough for 2 people. Very delicious and will be back for more! Loved the vegetarian dishes, and the beer was on another level.

Had the Gored Gored, Bozena Shiro, and zilzil tibs. Fantastic. Not as spicy as I’d thought it would be but I am Latin so my tolerance is higher. Use discretion if you have a low heat tolerance.

Husband and I first tried Ethiopian when Zygol was located downtown. I was very excited for the experience. He was not impressed but I enjoyed it. Tasty food but the glasses were dirty. Which I thought was weird since we were the only patrons in the restaurant at the time. So I asked for a new glass of water and she came back with another dirty glass..fine I just pushed it aside. Tried her restaurant at the new location here in 2020 when I know they’re struggling and same story years later. Dirty. Glasses. By dirty I mean visibly unclean, scuffs on the outside and small black things in and on the glass..so I dunno what’s up with all the dirty beverage glasses but nevertheless the owner’s food is good and I try to support. Last visit I made reservations for a large group of 6 or more friends from out of town to try as well but many had unfortunately canceled last minute and when I told the owner she was noticeably upset. I decided to order because I felt bad and actually did like her food but she huffed and puffed saying she didn’t have the beef wat which was arguably one of the best menu items. Menu is still confusing to understand and could be redone for simplicity sake. I ended up being glad my friends who cancelled didn’t go. Disappointed in overall service over the years -2 for service, price and portion size but if you can get past that her food is actually good.
