We recently ate at Stella for an anniversary/birthday dinner. We enjoyed the atmosphere – cool bar area with high shelves stocked with high end liquor. High ceilings and a well designed space throughout creates a high end feel. Lighting and furniture are on point which helps create a fantastic ambience. There are great outdoor seating options with views of the city. Our waiter, Mike, was outstanding throughout the night and provided some great recommendations. Micky, the manager, checked in with us to ensure we were having a great experience, which we appreciated.

Every year, I stay at Westin in downtown Milwaukee when I come to town. Sometimes, I come to Milwaukee twice in a year. Stella Van Buren is the restaurant attached to the hotel. I have eaten breakfast every morning at Stella Van Buren on those trips. I’ve been doing this for at least 10 years. Their food is good, the menu hasnt changed much, but their food is good. Especially their crispy potatoes! This trip I was sorely disappointed in the service. There were only 3 tables full, me being one of them. My waiter had only my table, and he gave the impression that he couldn’t be bothered. While nice enough, he didn’t listen to my order and gave me something I hadn’t asked for. While it was only the toast he switched out , the toast I got tasted like Natures Own Whitewheat. Then my eggs were overcooked. I had to ask for more coffee. He never once asked how everything was, and when he did come over, he said “are you done?” and put the bill on the table before I could respond. Now, after all the years I have come to this establishment they have ALWAYS had great service and friendly servers. This is a huge disappointment because this is my favorite hotel to stay at and I always look forward to eating at Stella Van Buren. I hope this was a one off and if it is, I will amend my review to the stellar service I have been accustomed to. Every year they ask me to review them and I have given stellar reviews (other platforms). Here’s hoping I get to amend this review before I leave this time around.

The food was exquisite. Perfect place for a fancy date or special occasion. I had the filet with mash potatoes and a side of risotto and it was all delicious. Our waitress was also very friendly and attentive. Overall, highly recommended!

Don’t order anything pasta!! absolutely not worth it. My pasta was bone dry so I asked for a sauce to make it somewhat edible and was brought a watery sauce which did not improve the meal. The waiter claims the sauce and flavor is supposed to come from the seafood. I have had much better pasta at the Cheesecake factory.

Stella Van Buren is a great choice for a birthday celebration. The lunch menu offers a variety of pasta dishes, including “paste al dente” which is highly recommended. The Italian donuts for dessert are also a tasty option and are sure to add a sweet finish to the meal.

If you live in the Milwaukee area, this is definitely a place you want to check out. They have the most comfortable elegant tables and an amazing wine & cocktail list. The food was DELICIOUS, the menu isn’t huge but let me tell you homemade pasta and the juiciest steak, the sides are cooked to perfection we had brocolini and asparagus which in my opinion are hit or miss! Huge shout out to Angelique. She was professional and very personable. She made our daughter feel like royalty, which in my opinion is a huge win. Luis, thank you for the beautiful birthday plate.

First of all, I can’t say enough for the management, the service and the atmosphere. First class all the way. The food, however, leaves a LOT to be desired. The calamari I ordered tasted fishy and had the consistency of chewing through a spare tire. The bolognese was under seasoned, the pasta over cooked. I credit the management for comping us after raising these concerns. It seems like Stella is going through a transition. I encourage everyone to be patient while they go through it. I’ll certainly be back and am hopeful for an improved culinary experience. Kudos BTW to the bartender, who made a fantastic martini.
