Wonderful food and a lot of it! If you’re downtown Goshen, you need to stop in. The price is great and the people are friendly. You also receive chips and some awesome salsa.

2023: I had the steak ranchero and regret it. The regular carne asada is much tender and comes with salad too. The ranchero comes with steak in a tomato sauce cut in smaller pieces but it was chewy. Comes with rice and refried beans. Service during lunch was much better than in the evening. Tamales are great. I ordered pick up and mine was ready on time.

There are so many great Mexican restaurants in Goshen but Universal Tamal is by far my favorite. Fresh and flavorful food with a peaceful atmosphere. Get the steak tacos and cheese jalapeno tamales and you absolutely won’t be disappointed. Love this place!

I primarily come here for a Mexican breakfast as they open at 9am on the weekends. Chiliquiles, Chorizo Burrito, etc. I have found the beans here to be very delicious, which is not something I tend to order.

Only gave it 3 stars because I haven’t tried all the food yet. Normally, the first things I’ll try at a mexican restaurant is the beans and the rice. If a Mexican restaurant can’t cook good rice? Or beans, it’s not worth trying the rest of the food. I did buy a dozen tamales I bought 6 rajas, 3 chicken, and 3 pork. Tamales weren’t bad, but i’ve had better.

Universal Tamal has the best fresh salsa and their tamales are delicious! They’ve recently redone the interior and the new booths and round tables really add to the atmosphere. 10/10, highly recommended!

Food is not bad, it takes a little longer than ideal for it to come out though. Service was pretty good. Location is ideal although probably not as much when super busy. At the end of the day this is one of those places that I’m glad I came to but probably won’t stick out from any other.
