In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price.
Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Food is OK , a little blah, dry and it says fruit and its just a garnish, had to flag waiter for drinks, I asked for refill she never brought it, chicken and waffles the chicken are tiny strips, waffle was a bit dry,forgot my son syrup I shared, warm biscuts be nice but our biscuits were cold.its a good atmosphere but but hoped for better service. Maybe it was just my waiter, I will visit again another time, give it another chance. My kids seemed to like it.

Amazing experience! I had to spend 3 days in the area and ended up eating here 5 times and picked up a desert to go for a 6th. Great atmosphere and food with portions that will not disappoint. Staff is great. The cook even came out to speak with me a couple of times to make sure everything was the way I wanted it. I will make it a point to visit here everytime I am in town, and will try one of their many other locations whenever I have a chance. This is the best and most affordable place I have eaten in a very long time, I guess that is why it is always packed with locals. Thanks Black Bear staff!

Friendly & helpful staff. Our server Jennifer was wonderful & attentitve, didn’t have to ask for a drink refill once! The food was absolutely amazing!!! Great variety & you can get breakfast all day!! Homemade sausage patties & thick sliced bacon were both cooked to perfection & delicious! My sister really enjoyed her pot roast & my nephew said the burger was terrific!!! 10 ot of 10 Highly Recommend!!!

Newly opened. I am so glad that the 30+ year old Petro greasy spoon was removed and remodeled. I welcome the BLACK BEAR menu and everyone as a customer vibe. New staff learning their trade. Another world from the McDonald’s across the street. Tasty food. Fresh coffee if you nicely ask for a fresh pot. Very good menu for families with kids. The pancakes are very tasty.

The food was delicious. The diner was clean and inviting. I loved the decorum. I loved the bear statutes outside welcoming customers. My husband had the crispy chicken Cobbs salad, and I had the crispy chicken smothered in Buffalo sauce in wraps with French fries. Our server was Juliet and she was attentative with our needs by bringing us more tea and whatever we wanted. We bought dessert to go. I liked Juliet bc she likes to converse with customers, and she pleasantly smiling when speaking to us.

Finally tried it out after it opened months ago. The reviews online and a personal one convinced me. I found the food to be okay, not delicious as I heard it was. A big part of it I believe has to do with the service. The server seemed distracted or perhaps new. I feel the food may have been sitting under a warming lamp for a while before she brought it out to us. It must have been about 30 minutes before I started to feel frustrated, i was starving and so where my kids. A couple sitting next to us actually noticed and recommended i ask the server for the status of our food, they had waited long as well. After getting our food I just felt unhappy and not satisfied. I also noticed other tables that came in after us were getting their food right away. I think out server was just bad or having a bad day, I will try this place again but maybe for dinner. The menu is huge and would like to give it one more try. Judge for yourself, send me a message and let me know what you think.
