Looking for a menu with traditional Mexican breakfast items and found what I was looking for here at El Yikes Oaxaqueno!!! Great eggs over easy with thin cut air cured steak, beans and rice. The lunch and dinner menu items are wonderful too. The restaurant is colorful and the service is friendly, fast and knowledgeable about the offerings. I love this place!!!

We love Oaxacan food and we get a lot of home cooked meals and have been to a lot of restaurants in Oaxaca City. This place is very authentic, the food was delicious, with a kick, the service was really quick and the staff was kind. The restaurant is small but once you enter, you know the food is about to be great.

Woooooowie the tlayuda especial was so yummy. It’s like a thin crust pizza but oaxaqueño style. An extra crispy thin base, beans, cheese, fresh tomato, avocado, cabbage, onion, and 3 meats! Chorizo, cecina(beef), pollo. Super friendly service and great conversations here. Fresh green and red salsa are amazing. Muy delicioso!!!!!!!!!!

Ordered the huarache with pastor as well as a goat birria plate and the green pozole. The pozole was phenomenal and the huarache comes on a handmade corn soft shell type of deal. It was so full of flavor. Had a little bit of a sweetness to it from the pineapple but overall delicious. The birria plate was my husbands. He was a bit dissapointed ok then portions. There was about 4 pieces of meat that came in the box with rice and beans but we did expect a bit more for the price. Overall great first expierience we will definitely be back to try their burritos and tacos !

Excellent yike which was seasoned and stewed with care. $15 is reasonable for this dish considering how much time and attention was put into it, especially when you compare to a bowl of Pho or Indian curry, which are comparable in price. We also orders the Quesa birria which was great and the consumme was rich and flavorful. We will be coming back hopefully sometime soon to try the tamales and mole.

I had the tamale plate and I would say it was perfect. The chicken had a nice spice and the queso fresco, crema, whatever was actually nice to cool them down a bit. I added a tamale to make it into two meals. Next time I’ll try the Molé, but so far this place is really tasty!

This little place is incredible! After reading a write up in Portland Monthly I came and tried the yike and it was so good. It is perfect Oregon rainy day food. I am so excited to come back to try the tetelas and everything else on the menu. The service was also super friendly. Highly recommend!

EDIT: Since my original 5 star review, I’ve been here five more times. My partner has some food allergies so she can’t eat nearly anything but when I told the lady behind the counter she suggested this new vegetable blend for my partner with pumpkin & mushroom & peas in a burrito, and my partner loved it! If I could make another account and rate five stars again I’d do it.
