Plantation Cafe & Deli, Hilton Head Islands oldest and best southern style breakfast and lunch restaurant. Our south island location, originally a pantry store, in 1974 the pantry vacated and moved next door. Since then Plantation cafe has been serving up great dishes for almost half a century.

Breakfast plates are big. Service was good, hostess and server were friendly. Coffee was strong just how I like it. I ordered the Ellie’s Southern Breakfast for the fried green tomatoes, but the breading was too thick for my liking. Other than that everything tasted great. I couldn’t even finish my plate. My son ordered a custom omelette and he was happy with it. I totally recommend this place.

The 4.3 stars this place has reeled me in to try. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed here today. After being sat by a host, it took incredibly long just to have someone come serve us for drinks or food. When we finally got our drinks, it evidently had a chemical taste. By the time we ordered, my eyes were met with the overly aged atmosphere of the design. For example, the wood throughout the restaurant had most certainly seen better days. On top of that, the ceiling tiles were begging to be replaced and dirty. By the time we got our food, it was barely warm and my hashbrowns were undercooked. Definitely disappointed.

We were looking for a decent place to eat breakfast on a rainy Sunday morning, and we were not disappointed. Plantation Cafe had a great selection of breakfast, even had Mickey mouse pancakes for the kids. I had a delicious cheese steak omelet, others with me had corn beef hash, eggs and pancakes. Food was very good, will definitely come back next time we’re in town.

The food was great. Good portions for price in my opinion. Service was just a little off. Lady was friendy but rushed us during ordering and payment. She also didn’t return to the table to ask about refills or anything after the food came.

I’ll cut this place some slack despite our terrible experience here. The food was alright, except the ham steak that was 80% tendons and cartilage. Biscuits and gravy were average, pancake was average. The service is what made this experience so awful. Our server came to our table 3 times while filling drinks for all other tables around us. One stop was for taking our order, and one for the bill. When he wasn’t ignoring us, he was behind the bar with his phone under the counter. Of course, I can’t assume this is what the norm is for this restaurant. The owner seemed very nice and was going around to tables asking how things were. Won’t try this place again and hope it was just a bad day for our server or something.
