Free chips and salsa to start. The meal portions are really good, I was not able to finish, but everything on my plate tasted great. They have a real good variety of platters so if you are wanting a little bit of everything, you can do it.

Jose’s Merican Cantina in New Providence, NJ is by far the BEST MEXICAN (authentic Mayan) food both my husband and I EVER HAD!! Not to be missed! We are vegan and had their vegetarian burrito platter with the best black beans & rice! (Better than my grandmother’s). Thank You for accommodating us for an amazing meal!

I got the fish tacos for pick-up. It was a pretty typical platter of rice, beans, and main. They do give you chips and salsa with any order. However, that was my minus one star because although included they were not good. I love chips and salsa but the chips were very stale and salsa watery. The main dish was good. I like the relish veg they put in the tacos.

This is a great neighborhood Mexican restaurant. We went on Cinco de Mayo so they were super busy. The service was great, including filling three baskets of chips before our meal came. The food was very tasty and fresh. Insider tip: the restaurant is BYO but there is a liquor store next door that sells plenty of different Mexican beers.
