I have been going to The Nugget for decades. It has had its ups and downs but in recent years had wide menu and nice service. Today I went in with that expectation. Instead was a counter that said order before being seated. Had a nicely displayed menu with very limited menu compared to expectations.

My uncle was so excited to take the whole family up to The Nugget for breakfast, as it was a favorite when he had a house up here. There were multiple signs as we walked up; “we have one cook, please be patient”, “new owners, new menu, welcome in!”…..our group was ok with patience. We were ok with the hour wait time. The legendary pancakes weren’t on the new menu any longer, which was pretty limited in general. As we tried to begin ordering, the hostess received instructions to turn our group away. They were 5 tickets in and didn’t want anymore, even if the rush brought good income from a flexible family. All of us are sympathetic to the fact that the hostess was just the messenger and the cook is just one person, but the new management can’t expect to stay open long with this kind of “welcome”. Need another favorite breakfast joint? 3 Rivers Smokehouse welcomed us with open arms, amazing service, and delicious food.

Our family had scheduled a fly fishing excursion in Taylor so we drove an hour just to eat brunch at the nugget before fishing.Even though the restaurant was short a cook, we were willing to wait for our food. The manager sent a message to the hostess that our party was too big to serve: we were 10 plus a toddler. The hostess said there were 5 tickets ahead of us. We said we can wait but we were told to leave. We even offered to split our party at different tables. There are no other food options in Taylor so our party drove back to Three Rivers to get some food. Then our fly fishers drove all the way back to Taylor to start the fly fishing excursion. The most disappointing thing was the staff did not apologize for our inconvenience, the attitude was one of indifference. Our toddler kept saying “lunch? lunch?” He was very hungry. We had to scrounge up crackers to sustain him while we drove the hour back home to find food. If I could give a negative star I would

It just opened under new management and they said they only had one cook so food was a little slow. The Reuben my wife had was very good. I had the hamburger. It was just fair. The french fries were cold and the macaroni salad my wife had was a mayonnaise base which she prefers a more vinegary or Italian dressing type base on the macaroni salad

Had the 3 piece fried chicken with macaroni salad, outside of chicken hot ,inside was cold. Had to order standing at the door, no time to study the menu, they brought the food out but you had to go to a table up front to get your own silverware, and condiments. Been coming here Memorial day weekend for the last 28 years. Last 2 years have been disappointing. We’re bringing my own groceries and prepare my own meals for any future trips up here.

We walked in as a party of 12 at 9am on a Thursday. We drove in from Almont specifically to eat at The Nugget. At first the hostess said it would take an hour to get food and we were happy to wait. However, when they realized the time quote didn’t scare us off we were told to leave. They “were 5 tickets deep in the kitchen and did not want our business.”

The food is amazing. They have changed up the cafe where it is much more confident. Order and you can take it with you or eat it there. My all time favorite is the smothered French fries. Omg. They are amazing. But I must say we didn’t have a bad bite. The breakfast is amazing., my husband said the Rueben sandwich is the best he ever had. They really have knocked it out of the park. If people don’t eat here, they are really missing out. The staff is so friendly too.

This was always a family favorite…but they no longer seat you with a menu and wait on you. Now you order their expensive items when you walk in the door. You pay, pick up your plastic ware from a dispenser, fill your drinks, pick up a salt and pepper shaker, pick up napkins and butter, syrup or any other condiments you need, then seat yourself. They bring your food to the table in a tin with a slice of foil laid in the bottom. After eating, you place the trash in a trash can, put the tins on top of the trash can and return all condiments from their original place, then leave. We paid $87 for a breakfast of 4. We will not return
