Overall, Ariyoshi is a restaurant where you can find friendly staff and average food. Servings are a lot, so if you’re in Sunnyside looking to have some quick Japanese food, you can drop by here and eat, have some Sake too.

I would give them 20 stars if I could. I wasn’t even hungry when I wandered into this place, I just wanted something small and simple before I call it a day. I ended up finishing all these and I left with an extra order of takeout in my hand. This is how good this place is. Authentic menu, super nice and friendly staff. Utterly amazing experience.

Haven’t been there since COVID and luckily it has survived the pandemic but the place has changed and their menu has changed. Even though dinner overall was good, I felt the fish wasn’t as smooth as it should have been. Chicken yakitori was the best part of the meal. Don’t think I’ll be going back to soon in the near future.

Very sad to leave this review. My first experience a year ago (for lunch) was great and I really enjoyed the food. I remember the chazuke being very tasty! But sadly I cannot say my second experience (for dinner) lived up to prior standards. While the service was very good, the food was…very bland! Only the gobo and salmon skin small plates had any flavor. My main dish, ginger pork, barely had any ginger flavor to it and the meat was too thick and rubbery! It definitely seemed like they used a cut of pork that’s used for pork cutlet instead of using thinly sliced pork as I’ve usually had for this dish. Because the meat was so thick and tough, it didn’t absorb any of the ginger sauce. And on top of that, the ginger sauce barely had any ginger taste! I was looking forward to this dish as it was something I used to have once a month when I used to live in California. Also, the batter for my boyfriend’s tempura was very soggy! I thought it was odd how quickly our food came out. Unfortunately the food quality has gone down while prices go up. I feel like they might focus more on the sushi platters and give very little thought to any other dishes in their menu. I guess I’ll be out on the hunt to look for a new Japanese restaurant that has more flavorful dishes and actually focuses on quality for ALL items in their menu.

Great spot for authentic Japanese food. You can see Japanese business people dining at the counter conversing with the sushi chef/bartender. Great selection of izakaya style food. Their sushi combo deals are great bang for your buck considering the quality of the sushi. A bit lacking in creative interior design.

On Nov 22 at 7pm I ordered takeout from this place- they do not secure the takeout bags properly which caused all the sauce from the dish to leak out into the bag. The bottom of the bag broke open and I saw that the lid could not even stay on the tinfoil bowl because the bowl was bent at an awkward shape. I will never recommend this place for getting takeout.

So surprised finding an authentic Japanese restaurant in Sunnyside, Queens. Initially I just craved to have some sashimi, but finally I found more than that! I had Shime Saba (marinated mackerel) & Tako Wasa (raw octopus with wasabi & mirin dressing) which I haven’t found (yet) in any regular Japanese sushi restaurant in Queens. The Shime Saba was so clean & delicious! They made it excellent! No fishy smell at all. So with Tako Wasa, was very refreshing.

This restaurant should be at the top of your list if you happen to be in the area. I enjoyed the sushi and Takowasa which I had as a side dish. This was my first time eating raw octopus and I found a new favorite dish. The waitress was very kind and accommodating as well. I would give more stars if I was given the option to.
