We stopped in while on a day trip to Chincoteague Island. We really enjoyed our time there. The dining area is a large outdoor screened in bar with lots of ceiling fans. The bartender/server Lorie was excellent! She made recommendations which were good, and was very accommodating when we asked to move seats. We ordered a seafood platter, calamari, and hush puppies. It was all perfectly done except for the shrimp which was a little overcooked. Everything else more than made up for it though. We will certainly return when in the area.

Got there at 430 and we had a wait. Under staffed signs on the door. Ok, no problem we will grab a drink at the bar while waiting and look around. Nope, apparently you may only have a drink if you have a seat at the bar. That was a first for me and not a great business plan for the bar. So we patiently waited with out refreshments. We got a great table and ordered a few drinks and the crab bites as an app. All good there. We ordered out main dishes and the crab bites came out. Surprisingly delicious. We hit them with a squeeze of lemon and a dusting of old bay. Our meals arrived shortly after. Our sons had fish n chips(substituted fries for a bunch of hush puppies) and a cheese burger. Both were 100%. We ordered the blackened shrimp tacos special and the Mahi platter. We had the fish prepared blackened for some extra flavor. The fish Tacos were good. Ceasar salad was the filling with the shrimp. It’s a good combo but it needed to be made fresh. Most of the Ceasar salad was wilted and started to get a little slimy. Otherwise the hush puppies and old bay chips where great. On to the Mahi. We got coleslaw and broccoli salad as sides. Both great. So the fish came out way over cooked. My wife made it thru about 1/2 a piece and there was 2 nice sizes pieces on the platter. It was super dry and tough and way over cooked. I realize we ordered it blackened but thats a seasoning not a cook to temperature. When our waitress made it back around she was surprised but didn’t offer to replace it with something else. So that meal was a waste of $30. This was our first time in and overall it was a good experience. Only 1 out of 4 meals was a no go. We will be back and would like to try some other menu items.

Oh. My. God! Was only on the island for two days (and not even two full days) and we were here both days for lunch! Every place we visited, they all recommended Captain Zack’s (and I thought it was because not everything was back open for the season) and I understand why!

The screened in porch dining area is a great vibe. Service was top notch. Food was pretty good, but not amazing. Typical Chincoteague oysters – very briney, not too photogenic, but clean and delicious flavor. The smashburger was pretty weak, not really smashed at all, no crisp or char. Fried cod was excellent. Everything came with hush puppies which were great.

Words cannot express food at Captain Zack’s It was one of the best meals I had in a long time. The service was excellent too. Everyone was so polite and friendly. Be prepared that this place gets busy in the evenings so you might have to wait 45-60 minutes for a table. It’s definitely worth it! We went for a walk and then they called us and I’m so glad we didn’t go anywhere else!

Food was amazing, service was absolutely amazing for how understaffed they were and the atmosphere was great as well. The drinks at the bar are well worth the money and so is the food. I recommend just a good old fashioned burger with some cocktails; honestly can’t beat it.

I was a little taken aback by the 2 hour wait but in retrospect, I realize that everyone in the know phones their orders in early- because the food is worth waiting 2 hours for. Crab cakes were no filler. 10/10, would eat again. And will tomorrow because I couldn’t even try to eat more than half of my platter in one sitting.

One of our favorite places on the island, we go at least once a month and never get tired. Drinks and food are both great, the crab legs and hushpuppies are always perfect. Never had a bad meal, and Corey is our favorite bartender!!

Been coming to Chincoteague for decades for work but just went to Captain Zack’s for the first time. The food was better, the portions larger, the atmosphere just as good or better, and the cost was less than the other places I’ve been going to. This will be one of my new routine restaurants when traveling here.
