I went to the Buttered Tin with my friend on a Saturday morning around 10:30. It was busy, but we didn’t have to wait for a table. The open concept room led to it being a little loud to chat easily. The food was delicious. I ordered the smothered burrito and an iced vanilla latte. The burrito was flavorful and hot. The latte had a nice combination of coffee flavor and sweetness. My friend got the grain belt breakfast and said it was just fine. I would say the food was a little pricy, and the staff were a bit busy to help with getting hot sauce, grabbing a box, or clearing the dishes, but we were able to get help by asking at the front counter. The staff we interacted with were friendly and quick to help when we asked. Overall, I would go back if I was meeting a friend in the area.

Came for brunch because we had a gift card from a friend. I ordered the Damn Good egg sandwich and my wife ordered the Biscuts and gravy. The sausage and gravy were good. The Egg sandwich was only ok. Disappointing for the cost. We also bought some lemonade that was too strong. The experience and atmosphere was ok. Overall it was a decent experience but the price is too high and the portion size could be a little better. Unsure if I would return.

After reviewing some of what others have said, I have determined that this establishment is doing the right thing by implementing a 20% surcharge for livable wages instead of raising their food prices because it offers transparency about what that 20% is added to, which is a cause that I fully support, and makes me want to willingly contribute more, instead of increasing my expectations on the food quality due to increased prices. With that said, I have to make it clear that they indeed have amazing food! I have been here a total of 3 times, and each time it did not disappoint. First of all, even with the surcharge, most of the items are still under $20 and therefore affordable, on top of them providing a good amount of food on each plate. Second, quality-wise, I would highly suggest the damn good egg sandwich, the huevos rancheros benedict, the cinnamon rolls, the biscuits & gravy, and the pierogis, eggs & sausage. All of them have the perfect combination of food that allows you to say that you have gotten a little bit of everything! If I have one piece of constructive advice, it would be to offer a bit more variety in the salads that are offered with some of the plates. This is not a piece of advice I have for this establishment per se, as a lot of other restaurants do the same. I think adding some beets or cherry tomatoes along with the single kind of leafy greens would elevate the side house salad even more. While I wouldn’t put this place as a breakfast / brunch spot better than others, I will say that this place is definitely one of the great breakfast spots in the city. The food is served in a speedy manner, and the atmosphere is very modest in a self-serve type of manner, although they also allow you to order at the counter. It is the perfect spot to have a good time with a friend catching up while indulging in some good breakfast, all the while not having to worry about looking out of place.

My friend and I went there for lunch and loved the food. I ordered the brown rice bowl and it was so yummy that I forgot to take a picture of it before I started helping myself.

Place is very laid back, simple, bright, and clean. We got the smothered burrito, the huevos rancheros, french toast with lemon and honey mascarpone, and the standard eggs, hash brown, turkey sausage, and toast. We also tried the lavender lemonade and ginger lemonade.

Continuing my quest to find the best biscuits and gravy in the twin cities I ended up at the battered tin. The biscuits were flaky, simply amazing, models. The gravy was seasoned plentifully and packed with sausage bits. The additional toppings (tomato and pickles onions) though not necessary worked well and brought a acid to an otherwise heavy dish. Though it doesn’t necessarily scratch that classic comfort food b&g itch due to its elevated nature it was still amazing. Will be back to try more.

First, it’s expensive for a breakfast. The forced 20% tip won’t sit well with some. Once you’re past the price and ready to eat, on with the review.

The food was absolutely stellar! The cinnamon rolls were melt in your mouth, and the coffee was full and flavorful. Even with it being an order at the counter place,. The staff member that helped us out was attentive throughout the experience and was all smiles and good attitude! Overall if I could give a higher rating I would!

Cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting is amazing, best one I’ve ever tried. Smothered burrito is fulfilling. Porchetta sandwich is okay, not recommending it. Busy place for Saturday brunch. Fast service but tables and booths need to be cleaner.

Everything was amazing! Thoroughly impressed- the cinnamon rolls are like a hybrid caramel roll, super sweet with soft chewy centers, the biscuits and gravy were super flavor packed and savory- the poached eggs went well with the dish! Friends had the Pierogi Sausage and Eggs and The Grain Belt breakfast and both loved their meals! You order at the counter before sitting and bring the number to the table so it’s semi self serve but allows for things to move quicker for the staff and for you to choose your spot!
