Athenian Grill was founded by Ilias Pappas, a Greek native and hospitality management major at the University of Kentucky. Ilias grew up in a small town near Athens watching his mom cook lamb on the open fire and his grandmother bake homemade pita bread in the family’s clay oven.
Ilia’s vision of partnering with local farms and businesses to bring fresh, authentic Greek food to Lexington is supported by a dedicated, hardworking and growing team. Together they serve up quality food that hungry Lexingtonians can truly enjoy and feel good about!

It was a small two story building where the limited seating was upstairs. The staff was friendly and quick. The menu was expansive enough to feed a lot of people. The appetizers, salad, and one meal was good. My meal was sub par, tasting like numerous things I’ve eaten before out of a high school cafeteria. It was the Mousakka plate. Don’t get me wrong, it was light and filling but it didn’t carry anything with it that was new or exceptionally delicious. Everything else was fantastic.

I was so thrilled to find great Greek food!! The folks here are just a joy to talk to, and they are rightfully proud of the food! My husband had mentioned he wanted gyros earlier in the day, so we couldn’t pass up stopping at Athenian Grill. I got the falafel on pita with tzatziki sauce (my favorite part!). It was perfect! Their lemon potatoes are absolutely delicious! Do not miss out on those potatoes! We split some grilled veggies, which were fresh, and really topped off our meal. We both look forward to going back as soon as possible! It’s so good we will drive the 45minutes from our place because it’s that good! There’s seating upstairs, and the bathroom is so clean. I cannot recommend this Grill enough. They even have a drive through if you need to grab food on the go. Great place, all around!

Wanted to find a good spot for mediterranean/greek food and this is absolutely it. I ordered the lamb gyro and it was fantastic. The prices were also super reasonable and staff was great. There were a few little tables outside where I sat and enjoyed an evening watching the sunset. Would highly recommend!

After circling the block to find the right place to enter, Athenian Grill did not disappoint for lunch. Everything we selected was delicious. A traditional gyro, a vegan gyro and kid bowls filled everyone up. Service was friendly and fast, definitely worth the stop.

Cute little place. I got the lamb gyro with roasted veggies. Food tasted great, good portions and affordable. Limited seating upstairs but intimate. Staff/owner was really helpful with menu questions.

This is a great deal if you are on a budget. We ordered appetizers only trying to keep it to a small lunch. The plates however were filled with food. Good tasting, loved the upstairs cubby room, recommend eating there. They need to hire another person, the lady was doing everything in her power to take care of takeouts, new orders and us.

We ordered lamb chops and the chicken Santorini. The chops were good but some were well done, some were rare. The chicken Santorini salad was not well prepared. The salad was mixed with the chicken sauce! (at least it should have been served in a separate small platter).

Our family tried multiple dishes, and all were great – Moussaka, Cypriot Meatballs, Sausage Plate, and Spaghetti with Meat Sauce. The sides were delicious as well – Roasted Lemon Potatoes, Roasted Vegetables, and Greek Garden Salad. We enjoyed the new outdoor patio seating. The only drawback is lack of parking space.

WOW this place is phenomenal – visited for a weekday late lunch – food was flavorful and fresh, plus the amount for the price was a stellar value ( 2 entrees w/side + addl side salad + 2 cans of soda was $26 before tip). Plenty of unique options along with the staples. Not really a fancy place, it’s tiny inside with a few outdoor tables and plates/utensils are disposable, but you will not be disappointed.
