Service was a little slow, but also, they were busy during lunch, so no big deal at first but after we were seated it seems that we had to ask our waitress for items that should already be on the table right after we sit.

We don’t live in Hawaii, and during our brief visit we wanted to escape the tourist traps and experience some of the real local stuff. Some googling led us to this place. I am *so* glad we went here instead of the glitzy place on the beach. When we got there, there was a line and we were the only tourists – both great signs! After a brief wait, we were seated and helped by an incredibly friendly staff. Thanks to some other reviews we knew to order the chicken long rice for our picky eater, but we went more adventurous for the other family members and got a poke bowl and a Hawaiian sampler. Oh my gosh – so delicious. The atmosphere was very much “you are eating at a local restaurant,” right down to the formica countertops and corrugated plastic cups for the drinks. A family next to us had their dog at the table and were feeding him from their own plates. This is REAL Hawaii, folks!!! Was reminded of my favorite comfort food spots back home in Boston.

The service is quick and friendly. I felt like auntie was bringing me a plate at a cook out. The food was delightful and filling. I can’t recommend this place enough.

I haven’t been here for ages! The last time I came was when they were across the street from what use to be Gem store (Now Don Quijote) in the corner of a strip mall. They were crazy busy then and now. Nothing like a taste of local foods!

This review is only for the chicken long rice since that’s all we had. My toddler is super picky and yet he loves the chicken long rice here. It was our first time having chicken long rice and we all loved it!

I had a wonderful dinner here while waiting to meet up with some X Factah friends. Beef stew, lomi salmon, fried rice, smoked meat, chicken long rice. This was followed by some yummy haupia for desert. This wonderful, amazing, traditional Hawaiian meal should be part of an “Introduction to Hawaii” class given to any Haole that steps foot on the island. It’s a mix of traditionally inexpensive foods made with, as John Cruz so wonderfully put it, “Island Style.” Take the hodgepodge leftova and make a miracle. Memories (and traditions) are built on food like this. My local girl wife made beef stew like this years ago, and I wouldn’t eat it. Damn I was a fool. She left me, moved to Vegas, and now I gotta buy the stuff. Don’t be me, eat da fricking beef stew, build the memories, respect the culture, and cherish the miracle that is Hawaii.

A MUST-TRY while in Oahu! To be concise…the atmosphere is cozy, the food is amazing and the staff are among the friendliest you will find on the island! If you are in the mood for some authentic, Hawaiin food, slip on your flip-flops and head over to the Highway Inn! No need for dressy attire, simply bring an appetite!
