The Half Shell started out as a very small place with a few tables and a bar. A fun little joint where you could get oysters, shrimp, hamburgers, and really cold beer. It had the atmosphere of an old Panama City Beach dive with walls covered in dollar bills signed by customers. The cooking line was right behind the bar, so your bartender was also the cook. Customers from that time still talk about the old place. On November, 1st 1996 we moved to our current location. We also moved over a thousand dollar bills that had been stapled to the walls. That tradition continued for several years and the money was later donated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.

Great service. Blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich and crispy fries. Fried mushrooms. Raw oysters. Everything was brought quickly and hot!

Had the crab bites which tasted like deep fried crab cakes. Mac and cheese was good but not special and the ribeye steak sandwich. Hubs had the blackened snapper with steamed veggies and rice. He enjoyed it a lot.

This is a nice hole-in-the-wall place for Troy. A locals hangout.

Been coming here since I was a kid. It’s constantly been awesome. Drinks are better at the front bar more constantly but over all this is always an awesome place to go.

We were visiting Troy and chose Half Shell Oyster Bar and Grill to eat dinner at. It was a very nice place to eat. Staff was exceptionally friendly. Food was hot and delicious! Fries were very crispy! Sadly they did not have a crab appetizer my mother wanted so I have been informed I have to take her back. Reminds me of something Guy Fieri would have visited on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives.

Good lunch stop on our way home. We had the Chef’s Salad and Shrimp Salad. The shrimp was really tasty. Definitely a local place. Great service at the bar.

Appetizers were good. Took some time to get our meals and when they came out the was a used lemon on one of the plates and a hair on another one. Waitress kept apologizing and said they’ve been having trouble with the kitchen staff. After all that we all decided we won’t be going back

I’ll start by saying I live on the gulf so I’m very picky about seafood.
