We heard it was under new ownership and wanted to give it a try. We stopped in on a sunny Saturday afternoon, after it has only been open a week.

This is a great little hole in the wall. A secret place that you do and don’t want to share with too many people. The food and drinks were excellent. Even homemade chips and salsa! I judge a Mexican joint by their AL Pastor, which is what I had. I figure if you can get that right, you’re cooking with all the right ingredients! And boy is Woody’s Taco’s cooking with all the right ingredients!!! I am definitely going back to try another dish. I suggest you do too!

The new ownership of the downtown location completely changed the menu. They no longer serve the crispy tacos, and no longer have carnitas on the menu. There’s nothing special about the food we had, and the tacos are served on one steamed corn tortilla that breaks when you pick it up. The Woody’s on Mill Plain still has the same large, delicious crispy tacos, same menu. If you are looking for the original menu, go there not here. Was disappointed in the menu change.

RIP Woody’s. They had the best taco place in town and dismembered it. They no longer offer grilled fish tacos, carnitas and most of the menu. In addition the prices have doubled. I figured they would go up just due to inflation, but this is over that. The tables were sticky and coverage in food despite the restaurant being dead. Same overall atmosphere and set up. It’s always been loud. Overall, just so sad to see a community treasure be destroyed.

My friend and I went to the downtown Woody’s the other night. There weren’t many people there. We ordered fish tacos. The fish was very good, but it was served in soft corn tortillas that were tearing before we even picked them up. We hoped they would be served in the same large, deep-fried, crunchy shell that they used to have. The salsa was very spicy, so we ate the fish with our forks and left the cabbage that had been mixed with the salsa. All in all, very disappointing. I mentioned to the waitress that we much preferred the crunchy shell that the former owners served. She said she would mention it to the manager. We waited 10 minutes (no one else being served) as my friend wanted to talk to her, but she avoided coming back to our table.

Woody’s reopened under new ownership a few months ago and I was happy to visit them again and see how things had changed or stayed the same. My husband and I ordered several appetizers and tacos to taste lots of menu items and we enjoyed them!

I’ve been going to Woody’s for years (since they were at the old spot where Dediko is now), and I’m really confused by what’s going on here recently. Last time I went in, the chips were overcooked, the guac was brown like it had been sitting for quite a while, and the fish tacos were really dry and fishy smelling. It just honestly wasn’t good, at all. Even the margaritas are half the size and 1/3 as good as they’ve been in the past. I’ve also been to the Mill Plain location twice in the past month or so, and the same menu items there were pretty good. Unfortunately, I can’t see myself going back to this one.

I only have great things to say about my visit to Woody’s Tacos at the downtown location. I love the new menu it’s creative and features crowd favorites like birria tacos, tortas, the best skirt steak (both tender and flavorful) and seafood options. It’s great to see new life being breathed into a Vancouver classic restaurant. I love the flavors that remind me of central and Southern California. Aside from the food our drinks were unique and creative- the rosemary tequila gimlet was a fun twist on a classic favorite of mine. The margaritas are also good. The staff was super friendly and very attentive to our needs. The atmosphere featured colorful colors and gave it a fresh new look. It will definitely be apart of my families regular restaurant rotation. Can’t wait to go back and try more items from their menu!!!

2023.05.23: Sadly Woodys is ‘dead’ under new owners & management. Opening night food was horrible, cold, tasteless, half cooked and over cooked chips (in same basket), missing tortillas, no serving ware for large shared plates, etc. I have never known our group to ALL hate their food equally and feeling that they never want to eat anything ever again. They were (are) foodies before this meal. They had been excited. Oh Scott where are you? 🙁

We have been curious about this place and decided to stop in. The atmosphere is great and the service was very warm an attentive. Chips are good, tacos were decent, if you don’t know any better. Rice and beans are a hard pass. Beans looked like canned, the rice didn’t look mexican in any form. Just sticky bland white rice. With Little Conejo and Provecho not too far , save your $$ and go to either of those places.
