What to do when a shabby bank ‘out East’ gets put on the Sarasota market? Restore it. And then? Fill it with locally sourced Caribbean and Creole flavors and transform it into the first locally owned, mom and pop seafood restaurant in the neighborhood. Then — as a final note — name it something a little outlandish like Madfish Grill.
Converted bank is an informal choice for locally sourced classic & contemporary seafood & steaks. Based on 891 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.5 stars. Price $$

I recently tried out Madfish Grill for the first time and was exceptionally pleased with the experience. I was wondering if I would find anything I like, as my children are the seafood lovers and I am not. Our server, Joe, suggested that I try their flat iron steak and I was quite pleased with the seasoning and it came cooked medium rare, just as I had requested. I also was delighted to see that truffle fries were on the menu, which seems to be a rare find. They came with a dill sauce that was to die for. The broccoii was brilliantly seasoned and cooked perfectly. To top it all off the bread came with a unique fresh garlic and olive oil dip which teased my tasted buds. Joe suggested some delicious desserts for my kids and they made a special ending to our visit. I will be sure to return again anytime we visit the Sarasota area

I met two girlfriends for an Al fresco dinner on a Thursday night. The weather was perfect to sit outside on the patio. Our server was Joe who was friendly and attentive. Right before dusk, the flies showed up but Joe turned on the fans and away they went. I loved their wine list. Far more interesting than most other area restaurants I’ve visited. The menu was good but that’s where the one star deduction comes from. I prefer more healthy vegetable options. The bathroom was immaculate (always a good sign) and the ambiance was easy going. I will definitely return.

Food was good. We were sitting at the bar area and it was a Friday night so the service was a little slow at some points but good. Servers were eager to please and pleasant despite being busy. It wasn’t noisy as some other places may be when at the table tops by the bar.

Any day is a good day for happy hour at MFG. Rita’s latest and greatest concoction, the skinny piña colada on the rocks. Delicious! Light and vibrant with coconut water. Ben and Company always aim to please with innovative and rotating menus and seasonal cocktails. Great menu and great staff. We love the Madfish Grill.

Went here with my grandmother and was expecting another mediocre Florida seafood experience. Every other restaurant I have been to down there does not know how to cook fish, shrimp, anything really. NOT this place. The fish is always flaky and juicy and fresh tasting. The vegetables are perfect. Everything tastes and feels perfect. I haven’t had drinks here, but I imagine they are good as well. I can’t recommend enough. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right.

I may have reviewed it already, but it deserves repeating. This is a gem of a place. When I asked the manger which platform to post my review he said they were busy enough. I know that could sound wrong to some, so to clarify, it was 5 pm on Wednesday and the place was packed. Food is very good with fresh seafood and original dishes. If you’re traveling, it’s a short hop off of I 75.

Came here at 615 pm and left at 750 pm. My wife and I were here on vacation and are Hispanic. I felt like we were discriminated against. They took for ever to take our order. They never bought are food out. When we asked for the check, all of a sudden our food was ready. I’m confused because everyone was getting they’re food. Yeah, Kevin was rude, the rudest person I ever met. I believe he said “these people” which sucks because we were excited to try this place.

One of our favorite restaurants to go to on our way to the Drum Circle at Siesta Key, we highly recommend the chicken wings!

I’m 50/50. I’ve only been for brunch FYI. I went to brunch for a regular brunch about a year ago and it was AMAZING! Best Grits and continuous mimosas I’ve ever had. We decided that based on that experience we would do the Mother’s Day Brunch. This was not as good unfortunately. Service was scarce. Our “appetizer” of deviled eggs was more of a desert because we had to remind them of that order twice and they arrived after our main courses. I ordered the chicken and waffle. The chicken was the same as my child’s chicken strips (kids meal) and the waffle was over cooked and dry. The pickles on the side were plain not special hamburger pickles. The grits were amazing though..
