We stopped in for happy hour today before heading to a movie at Angelika and had a pleasant time. The happy hour specials are a bit hit-or-miss, with the oysters being tasty and a good value but some of the other options being a bit on the expensive side. For a Wednesday in the Union Market District at 6 pm, the place was pretty empty. Service was great, appropriately attentive and we received our food and drinks promptly. Seemed like the dinner menu was pretty limited, but we only ordered happy hour items. As I said before, the oysters were good. Fries & wings came out nice and hot. Wings were perfect cooked, nice and crispy, but not very heavily seasoned. Drinks were cold and the cocktails were tasty. All in all, a pretty good experience.

BAR REVIEW ONLY. Came here Sunday for oysters and drinks—overall such a disappointment. Arrived shortly after they opened at 5pm, barely anyone was there but we decided to sit at the bar. Bartender, right off the bat, was not friendly at all—none of the staff there seemed welcoming either.

I dropped in just in time for their daily $10 Happy Hour before it ended (from 4pm to 7pm). The Happy Hour prices were not giving Happy Hour prices to me. It seems like regular menu prices.

My experience started downhill. The bartender was terrible and they took 30 mins to take our order. First the Bartender took our cards before we could even order our drinks. He basically grabbed my friends credit card out of his wallet. We ordered an old fashioned and the lemon drink, both drinks were super watered down.

The food was horrible. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits. It was the worst shrimp and grits dish I’ve ever eaten. It was literally plain grits (instant??) With 6 fried shrimp tossed on top. There was no attempt to finesse the dish in any way. It lacked any attempt at creativity or embellishing. I do not recommend ordering this dish. I hope for the restaurant’s sake that this dish does not represent the rest of their menu.

My friends and I were eager to support this local black-owned restaurant for a friend’s Birthday dinner party! The ambience was amazing! The concerns we had were with serving wait time and staff rushing us to leave the restaurant. There was a shipment issue so they had a modified menu. I waited over an hour for shrimp and lobster jerk pasta; however, I would definitely recommend the pasta! The other concern was that we were not made aware that staff would kick us out when the band began their set. Our waitress finally informed us around 9:50pm that we would be billed an additional $20/person at 10pm when the band began to play. Our bill was nearly $1000. Staff began to come over to our table and tell us that we had to leave. I would like to suggest that parties are informed of the restaurant’s live band fee policy prior to being seated upstairs. It felt as though we were evicted even though we were willing to buy more drinks/bottles and food. I gave 4 stars because the food was so good & the ambience. But if I were rating based solely on how we were treated it would be 2 stars.

Greed is obviously what motivates the decisions at this place. I do not recommend going here for a meal. I have no idea if it’s any good as a venue / nightclub. The service was basically nonexistent, and I agree with the reviews that mention rude bartenders. It was chaotic trying to figure out where to sit and whether we could even order food. If there is an event, the staff just does not seem to care about diners.
