I can’t give less than one star so I’m taking the time to share this lengthy review as a WARNING to other customers. Check your food carefully before consuming from the Costa’s in Trussville. I ordered a large takeout meal for my family, which cost nearly $150.00. I picked up the meal and took it directly home and began eating with family, only to find a cigarette butt in the salad I had almost finished. No one in my home smokes and we were all in utter disbelief at what we saw. I called the restaurant to let them know I was bringing back the entire order as I could not allow my family to eat food that was possibly contaminated. I also brought the plate with the butt in the salad. When I arrived management and kitchen staff were at the take out counter and disputed that they were responsible for the cigarette butt contamination. One of the kitchen staff took my plate with the butt into the kitchen only to be told it was my plate and that he had to return it. He then tried to throw the butt away before giving the plate back. I asked him to return both. Another kitchen staff came around the take out counter to where we were to exam the cigarette butt and said none of them “smoked that brand.” One of the managers then said no one smokes “on the line” because it is against health regulations and she could lose her license.“ She then walked away. Losing her license seemed to have been her major concern rather than public health and safety. She never apologized or even said she would try to get to the bottom of how a butt could have gotten into the food. It was clear that she didn’t feel responsible. In fact she implied that we were lying. It is a fact that the only way that the butt could have gotten in the food from the restaurant to my home is that Costa staff put it there, mistakenly or not, or — and this is too disgusting to imagine — they reused food from another customer. I was eventually refunded my charge in cash and one of managers did apologize for the “inconvenience in bringing the food back, but not before the cashier said that we were “being aggressive” in speaking about the food and requesting a refund. My sister who had also eaten salad from the same container asked the cashier how would she react to finding a cigarette butt in her food? She did not respond. Fyi, the cashier listed on the refund slip that we “didn’t like the food” as the reason for the return, so it is doubtful that a food quality audit will occur. We asked if there was a process to file an incident report about this serious health and safety issue and the cashier responded there was not. My family and I are repeat customers and have had some good meals at Costa’s. This was not one of those times. I can only hope that my family and I do not get sick from this experience, which was totally avoidable. I will never patronize the restaurant again and I’m going to report this incident to the health department as soon as it opens on Monday.

Had a taste for some lamb chops and visited this place. Very nice family owned restaurant. I notice a lot of locals comes in and staff pretty much know what they are ordering.

Place is way better than Olive Garden or any of the chain restaurants. Food was outstanding and service was Top Notch!

I loved everything about this place. Some the reviews, I don’t see. It was a little pricey as this type of place usually is. But you get lots of big delicious pieces of bread. Thr hummus was a lot and amazing. Everything we ordered was humongous sizes and so dang delicious! I ordered chocolate cake. It was the bomb and couldn’t even finish it was so big. Love this place. Unfortunately I don’t live up here to come back more often!

Let’s start with the salad. It was just gross. The Caesar dressing left much to be desired. The food came out and wasn’t exactly as we ordered but that was fine. When I unwrapped my silverware the fork was filthy. It didn’t even look like they had attempted to wash it. The bread was the best part of the meal. Which is really sad. After eating when I started to tidy the table I noticed the bread basket. Utterly disgusting. I wish I had noticed how filthy it was before we ate. We won’t be back. If what they bring to your table looks this nasty then I can’t imagine what it looks like in the back… This basket has years of grime on it. Clearly no attempt has been made to clean it.

So I actually went to this place today with my friend who recommended it. When we first walked in it’s a ghost town, there was more staff than customers which isn’t odd for a Tuesday afternoon but their wasn’t even a hostess. Again that’s not a huge deal because it was slow but we stood up their waiting for like 3 minutes before we were greeted and sat. We got an order of mozzarella sticks which are more like 3 big mozzarella triangles ⛛. They remind me of the potato cakes that Arby’s used to have only coated with panko and stuffed with cheese. They weren’t the best or the worse but I felt I could have enjoyed them more if they were served in more manageable portions like actual mozzarella sticks. Moving on I ordered the shrimp alfredo which was $17.99 and my friend got the plain alfredo. Our waiter brings out these two massive plates stacked with a mountain of pasta. I’m telling you there was enough pasta on that plate to feed me and 3 other people and I ain’t no shy eater. I couldn’t even get through a third of it but what I really didn’t understand is that it only came with 5 shrimp. For $18 either take away like 2/3s of the pasta and give me more shrimp or you could still take away some pasta and lower the price. The sauce was palatable but considering this is supposed to be a mom and pop authentic Italian restaurant I expect it to at least be little better than olive garden. Now I will say the the bread was phenomenal and from what the waiter told me it’s home made. Also the salad was very fresh; no wilted lettuce or mushy tomatoes and the house made blue cheese was to die for. I don’t know what it says about your establishment when the best part of the meal is the free bread and a side salad but if I ever go back that’s all I want.

We received a check that was for 7 guests but there were only 3 of us. It was definitely more so we said something. Double check your tickets so they don’t over charge, because this is a common scam. I felt bad about tipping because it seemed sly of the server. Everyone loved the food but the service could have gone better for us.

Believe the bad ratings you read about this place! My take home order was wrong and completely messed up and the (wrong) sauce they put in the bag spilled out all over my food. I called back to inquire with the manager and was extremely polite but he was incredibly rude and hung up in my face while I was speaking! Never have I ever had such a bad experience!! The owner really needs a lesson in customer service and how to treat patrons. We usually get take out pretty often but we will not be back!

If the bathrooms are representative of the backend, holy smokes. Gross.

Take out order for salad and pasta was TERRIBLE !!! The dish for the pasta was LEAKING oil through the bag when I got home. The salad had NO dressing that I had ordered. LAST TIME I WILL VISIT COSTAS.
