At our Vestavia, AL location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

Great fish, I had batter dipped and my wife had catfish. Both were well cooked and served very hot. We both had a side of green beans, love the way they prepare their green beans. I had French fries as my second side – crispy and fresh. My wife had corn on the cob – so hot she was unable to touch it let alone eat it until right before our meal was over. She did say that once she was able to taste it that it was good. Service was a little slow but like everywhere else in this area, they were running short handed. The hush puppies were a little on the under done side.

They were very short staff the day of my visit. The young lady had a very pleasant attitude even with all she had to do. She was working drive through (taking orders, taking payments, passing orders out through drive thru window, and delivering orders to parked cars). She did it very efficiently, with a positive attitude and no complaints. I encourage her that she was doing a great job considering the situation at hand.

Ok so while the food was great, I had to wait 25 minutes to get the basic plate of fish, slaw, hush puppies, etc. then didn’t get my drink until I was done. Perhaps they were just overwhelmed at the time. I’ve eaten here before but just picked up the food to go. Very strange pick up lane.

The service was just okay. The person taking orders was probably not the best person for that position. She struggled with general concepts of splitting orders when multiple individuals ordered together. She seemed a bit overwhelmed and was only able to follow the “script” for order taking. When she asked the person in the back for assistance with cups or something to the like, that person was simply put just plain rude. The food, though fresh, was bland. Fortunately, the condiments helped.

Cameron kept rushing me to order and I asked her to let me look at the menu not even 69 seconds later she asked me again. She had a horrible attitude slammed the ice scooper down and mumbled something under her breathe when I asked her for a sweet tea because the Dr Pepper didn’t taste right

I don’t know where to start. I placed my order online and paid for it. First off, the cashier was standing there eating fish crumbs out of a pan when we came in. There is a place for special instructions which clearly is not necessary seeing as they are totally disregarded When I asked for the condiments, they didn’t have anything we needed. What they did bring was clearly the last of what they had. It was covered in old tartar and some were busted. I had a total of twelve pieces of fish and there was three packs of vinegar. I would’ve made a complaint to the manager but she was quite ok with the young man eating as well as passing out those disgusting packs of tartar. This is by far the most unprofessional experience I’ve had there.
