Had to try The Original Puffy Taco y’all. Never came here back when I lived in SA in the 70’s and 80’s. Cool history about the family biz and live music. Had the chicken fajita puffy with cheese. Good enough to go back for again! Menu was full of texmex, fried seafood and Burgers. Very busy, so service was a little slow. Parking was tight by building but more across street available.

We had a fantastic lunch. I think we tried every version of a puffy taco offered and they were all delicious. Service was great and the prices are very reasonable. I definitely recommend adding Ray’s to your San Antonio visit itenerary.

I have to give it to Ray’s Drive Inn for some of the best Puffy Tacos in San Antonio. Puffy without breaking, which is a big deal to me. The meat itself is very tasty and the taco overall is super delicious. We ordered some nachos as well which were also quite tasty. Overall, if you’re looking for great Puffy Tacos, this is the place!! Also, great service and fun atmosphere.

We had our dogs with us, so we ate outside on the tailgate of our truck. Parking was a bit tricky since we needed to be close to the building to get service – it was a busy Friday lunch rush. We ordered a variety of puffy tacos – carne guisada, chicken fajita, fried fish, and picadillo. All were pretty tasty. However, I wish there had been a different sauce for the fish taco; it was pretty bland. Our server was very efficient in bringing all our supplies before the food, our drinks, the food and even checked on us while we ate outside – very nice. We enjoyed the experience of a different type taco. My favorite was the carne guisada.

It’s been said that the “Puffy Taco” originated in San Antonio Texas and it was something I’ve wanted to try. The only problem was I reside in California.

Brianna was such a sweetheart…I took my mom and my wife out for some lunch and we stopped in…the decor here is amazing, nostalgic, vintage, pleasing to the eyes…known for their award winning puffy tacos…Rays has eclectic decor and delicious entree’s….friendly faces and clean establishment. Plenty of parking and clean (but tiny) restrooms…Brianna was so helpful in selecting our orders and also let us know about their bucket of beer special…the three of us had puffy tacos, cheeseburgers and the fish burger. Onion rings n fries n cold beers here made the highlight of our day off… Brianna had a beautiful smile and always checked up on us….she was very knowledgeable on the history of the restaurant as well…there were also many food orders to go on the counter so you can call your order in and pick up….we will come back again thanks so much for a great experience. Additional parking available across the street…thanks again…this days cost for three people averaged $40 plus $10 tip…

Stopped in for a bite to eat between a big breakfast and deciding on what to eat later in the day. They greeted us right of way, and we were sat quickly. The salsa that comes with the chips is very good, pairs well with the Crispy Dogs in my opinion. Puffy tacos are not a thing where I’m from, but in San Antonio they sure are. The tortilla is good, and the meat was tender but the flavor was a bit lacking for me. Not a deal breaker by any means, I’m glad I gave it a try and would definitely recommend Ray’s to anyone going to San Antonio. The place is filled with lots of nostalgic memorabilia, which is great to point out and tell the kids about.

Finally made it out to Ray’s for an original puffy taco. I tried all of the meat options in a puffy taco. My top favorites were the carne guisada and BBQ. I would recommend getting cheese on your tacos. Tortillas were perfectly crisp but not too crisp that they fall apart in your hand. Great lunch spot!
